Program Planner

Asian Health Services, founded in 1974, provides health, social, and advocacy services for all regardless of income, insurance status, immigration status, language, or culture. Our approach to wellbeing focuses on “whole patient health,” which is why we provide more than primary care services, including mental health, case management, nutrition, and dental care to more than 50,000 patients in English and 15 languages: Korean, Lao, Burmese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Mien, Karen, Mongolian, Karenni, Tagalog, Khmer, and Vietnamese. We offer medical, dental, and mental health services for all ages.


Responsible for coordinating all aspects of grant development and reporting; monitoring and ensuring completion of grant deliverables, monitoring of policies and activities that are relevant to the agency’s mission; conducting grants-related needs assessments and research review, and planning of corporate, facilities, and special projects as assigned.

Essential Job Functions
  • Grant Writing:  Seek governmental, foundation, and corporate grant funding opportunities through multiple sources including internet and foundation database research, networking, prospect research, and document review. Work with program staff to identify program needs and to develop program/project and budgets for grant applications; write and package grant applications; monitor grant project progress and provide necessary follow-up on throughout the process (e.g. providing additional information, setting up meetings, facilitating scope or budget revisions, attending grants related events, etc.).
  • Grants/Contracts Monitoring:  Monitor agency's compliance with contract reporting requirements, prepare and package contract progress reports; monitor, and ensure that agency staff comply with reporting and other contract requirements in a timely fashion.  Prepare written materials and respond to inquiries from funding agencies, government agencies, foundations, and other community-based organizations as requested. 
  • Program planning, evaluation, and research:  Work with departments in developing departmental program plans and/or new program concepts to pitch in grant applications; Work with departments to analyze their internal data and outcomes to identify potential areas to improve, as relates to grant applications; Collect and analyze external data on a service area to determine community needs. 
  • Community Collaborations: Initiate and participate in the community-based evaluation and research activities in collaboration with the clinic and health education staff.  Participate in discussions of broad health and community clinic policies and other developments that affect the organization.  Represent the agency in collaboration, partnerships, and joint activities with partner organizations as appropriate.  Participate in strategic planning issues as assigned.

General Agency/AHS Duties
  • Fosters an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among clients and staff.
  • Enforces clinic policies and procedures, including maintenance of client confidentiality under HIPAA privacy rules, to ensure that the principles of AHS are implemented.
  • Plays an active role in planning organization-wide activities such as AHS general membership meetings, fundraisers, special clinic days, and other events.
  • Participates in general membership meetings, fundraisers, and other public events, as required.
  • Participates in outreach activities, agency advocacy, and serves on ad hoc committees, as requested.
  • Attends AHS staff retreats and Board of Directors meetings, as required.
  • Participates in agency-wide quality improvement program processes and performance improvement teams to ensure excellence in the quality of services provided across the agency


Minimum Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree in public health, health field, city, and regional planning, or related field 


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in grant writing is highly desirable.
  • Health planning is a community-based, nonprofit setting is desirable.
  • Knowledge of data collection and research techniques or statistical analysis helpful.
  • Familiarity with the Asian community
  • Bicultural and bilingual in any Asian language


Knowledge Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and conceptualize complex public health or health information
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to organize and present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet external and internal deadlines.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to conduct internet research to gather compelling and relevant data for grants related needs assessments.
  • Ability to work well with staff, board members, funders, and the public on all levels.
  • Able to be flexible with hours to attend meetings, events, and other activities that happen from time to time

$38.78 - $40.05 an hour
