About the Role:
CloudZero is seeking a seasoned and inspiring software engineering leader to guide one of our most critical platform teams: the Core Data Platform team. This team is composed of 8 talented backend engineers, supported by a dedicated product manager and architect, and focused on building and scaling the robust data pipelines that underpin our platform. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key leadership role—cultivating a high-performing engineering culture, setting technical direction, and translating business priorities into scalable solutions that power the core of CloudZero’s cost intelligence platform.
In this role, you’ll lead efforts to evolve and expand our core data infrastructure, which ingests, transforms, and enriches massive volumes of cloud usage data. This foundational system supports every product experience we deliver—ensuring accurate, performant, and reliable cost data is always available. Your leadership will drive improvements in our data model, processing frameworks, and system architecture, enabling us to serve increasingly complex customer needs with speed and precision.
And we’re just getting started. As we scale, the Core Data Platform will be central to new capabilities—from real-time insights and advanced anomaly detection to predictive modeling and ML-powered decision support. Your team will be at the heart of these innovations, shaping the future of cloud cost data and making it actionable for the world’s most engineering-driven organizations.
Lead, coach, and grow a team of backend engineers responsible for building and scaling our core data platform—including large-scale data ingestion, transformation, and enrichment pipelines.
Collaborate closely with product management, architecture, and other engineering leaders to translate company strategy into technical execution across the data platform.
Drive the team’s agile planning and prioritization processes, ensuring clear goals, consistent delivery, and high engineering standards.
Foster a strong engineering culture centered on collaboration, technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Guide the evolution of our data processing architecture to support performance, scalability, cost-efficiency, and observability at scale.
Partner with platform engineering to establish best practices for data quality, pipeline reliability, incident response, and operational excellence.
Provide mentorship and career development support for team members, creating growth opportunities aligned with individual and team goals.
Lead with empathy and clarity, creating an inclusive, psychologically safe environment where engineers can do their best work.
5+ years of engineering management experience, leading backend or data infrastructure teams in a high-growth SaaS environment.
Proven success managing, mentoring, and developing high-performing engineering teams.
Strong technical background in backend systems, distributed data processing, cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), and modern data platforms.
Experience with data pipeline technologies (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Flink, Airflow, dbt, Snowflake, etc.) and cloud-native architectures.
A bias for action, with the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on leadership in a fast-paced environment.
Comfort navigating ambiguity and driving clarity through prioritization, technical decision-making, and crisp communication.
Experience working cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver impactful customer-facing outcomes.
Passion for building platforms that are reliable, performant, and empower downstream teams with great data.
Please note: CloudZero is unable to sponsor employment visas or provide immigration-related support now or in the future. All candidates must have current, unrestricted authorization to work in the United States permanently.
