Senior People Operations Business Partner

About Commonwealth Fusion Systems:

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is on a mission to deliver the urgent transition to fusion energy.

Combining decades of research, top talent and new technologies, we’re designing and building commercially viable fusion power plants. And working with policymakers and suppliers to build the energy industry of the future.

We’re in the best position to make it happen. Since 2018, we’ve raised over $2 billion in capital – more than any other fusion energy company in the U.S.

Now we’re looking for more thinkers, doers, builders, and makers to join us. People who’ll bring new perspectives, solve tough problems, and thrive as part of a team.

If that’s you and this role fits, we want to hear from you.

Join the power movement as Senior People Operations Business Partner

CFS is seeking a highly motivated and strategic People Operations Business Partner to join our growing People Operations team. In this pivotal role, you will serve as a trusted advisor and partner to our business unit leaders, aligning People Operations strategies with business goals and objectives. You will play a critical role in fostering a positive and high-performing culture, ensuring our workforce is effectively managed, developed, and engaged as we scale our operations.

What you'll do:
  • Strategic Partnership:
  • Collaborate closely with business unit leaders to understand their goals, challenges, and workforce needs, developing and implementing People Operations strategies that directly support and enhance business outcomes.

  • Talent Management:
  • Partner on all aspects of the talent lifecycle, including workforce planning, organizational design, talent assessment, performance management, succession planning, and retention initiatives.

  • Employee Relations:
  • Provide expert guidance and support on employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, investigations, and compliance with all relevant employment laws and company policies.

  • Culture & Engagement:
  • Champion a positive and inclusive workplace culture, working with leaders to drive employee engagement through initiatives such as feedback mechanisms, recognition programs, and pulse surveys.

  • Change Management:
  • Support organizational change initiatives, including restructures and growth, by managing the impact on team members and facilitating smooth transitions.

  • Data & Analytics:
  • Utilize people data and metrics to identify trends, inform strategies, and drive continuous improvement across People Operations programs and processes.

  • Policy & Compliance:
  • Ensure clear communication, understanding, and adherence to company policies and procedures, mitigating legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Collaboration:
  • Formulate strong partnerships across the entire People Operations function (Talent Acquisition, HRIS, etc.) to deliver integrated and value-added services.

What we're looking for:
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in an HR or strategic project management role, preferably in a fast-paced, high-growth, technology-driven, or manufacturing environment
  • Proven ability to build strong, trusted relationships and influence at all levels of the organization
  • Experience designing effective processes and managing projects
  • Strong problem-solving skills, ability to think creatively about both short and long term solutions
  • Change management expertise and the ability to guide leaders and employees through transitions
  • History of improving leaders’ performance
  • Strong coaching skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills

Why CFS?:
  • Be part of a team actively working to combat climate change and deliver a clean, abundant energy source
  • Work in a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment with leaders in tough tech, fusion science, and manufacturing
  • Opportunity to make a significant impact on our rapidly growing organization and its unique culture
  • Competitive salary, benefits, and a chance to contribute to a world-changing mission

Must-have requirements:
  • Perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate industrial hazards that may include heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead (Pb), high voltage, and cryogenics
