Description

The CHAMPS Pathologist will work on the Pathology Team in the Science, Strategy and Implementation Unit within the Program Office.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes extensive experience in using diagnostic methods to identify and diagnosis the presence of infectious diseases and other types of diseases, providing technical expertise and guidance to pathologists, and supporting research and surveillance programs.
  • Participates in the design and implementation of the Pathology workstream.
  • Provides expert advice and works with CHAMPS leadership on the development of agreements with Reference Laboratories in Africa and South Asia to conduct pathology activities for the CHAMPS program.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to CHAMPS site pathologists.
  • Develops and implements quality assurance processes and standard operating procedures.
  • Provides expert advice and consultation to the Reference Laboratories in Africa and South Asia working across the CHAMPS network.
  • Leads and/or contributes to site monitoring of laboratory and pathology activities across the CHAMPS network.
  • Participates in the development of peer review manuscripts.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctor of Medicine with specialization in pathology, and five years of experience in laboratory science and pathology.
  • Experience working in an infectious disease pathology laboratory.
  • Experience working with global research and surveillance network focused on infectious disease and/or maternal and child health.
  • Experience conducting research. Experience working with low-resource countries, particularly in Africa and South Asia is preferred.
  • Experience working in cross-cutting programs that require the development of collaborations with other team members and organizations is preferred.

 

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
