Senior Data Engineer II - Electronic Health Records (EHR)
Skills
- 5+ years in data engineering with minimum 2 years working on healthcare or life sciences data, specifically EHR datasets.
- Proficient with biomedical ontologies and schemas such as UMLS, LOINC, ICD9/10, MeSH.
- Experience with EHR modalities including billing claims, lab results, visit notes, and medical images.
- Strong expertise in biomedical feature engineering including variable transformations and derivatives.
- Fluency in SQL and Python and experience building production-grade data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with modern data infrastructure: Snowflake, Dagster, dbt.
- Applied generative AI techniques within data pipelines, including prompt engineering and LLM workflows.
- Clear documentation skills and structured approach to complex healthcare data.
- Growth mindset and interest in bridging isolated data environments to governed shared models.
Responsibilities
- Model and transform raw EHR data into clean, analytics-ready datasets using SQL, Python, and clinical standards such as FHIR, HL7, or OMOP.
- Build and maintain scalable data pipelines using Dagster, dbt, and Snowflake.
- Collaborate with Data Science and product teams to develop cohort logic, derived features, and structured data outputs.
- Apply Generative AI techniques like LLM-based entity extraction, summarization, and classification in data transformation workflows.
- Write robust, testable, version-controlled code following CI/CD and data governance best practices.
- Implement data validation and observability frameworks to ensure dataset quality and reproducibility.
- Document transformation logic, assumptions, and data lineage in coordination with metadata and catalog systems.
- Contribute to defining standards and best practices around GenAI and data engineering at platform scale.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Informatics, or related field required.
- Advanced degree preferred but not mandatory.
