We are shaping the future of government contracting with breakthrough AI-driven solutions. We're actively disrupting a multi-billion dollar industry, enabling cutting-edge private sector technologies to rapidly secure government contracts—fortifying national security and economic growth.
GovSignals has built the most advanced government contracting AI solution on the market. Whether you're a startup or a Fortune 500, our platform increases the number of solicitations government contractors can pursue and empowers them to produce winning, fully compliant proposals in hours rather than months. We don't just follow government trends; we lead them. As one of the largest government data aggregators in the industry, we can often see what the government will do before the government knows.
The role Special Projects Engineer is a high-trust, high-impact position reporting directly to the Chief Product Officers. You will be pointed at the company's most strategic, experimental, or time-critical initiatives across both government and commercial domains. Your mandate: explore, prototype, validate, and accelerate what's next for GovSignals.
As a Special Projects Engineer:
You will have a direct line to product leadership. You'll have the CPO's ear.
The coolest work at the company. You'll own the weird, the urgent, the high-leverage, the "no one else can figure this out" problems.
Move fast & (responsibly) break things. Speed matters. We bias toward action, validated learning, and tight iteration loops.
Dual impact. Work that touches national security and drives commercial scale.
Founder energy welcome. If you've built companies, shipped scrappy side projects, or lived the startup grind, you'll feel at home.
Rapid 0→1 Prototyping & MVP Delivery: Design, build, and ship full-stack proof-of-concepts and v1 products in hours or days. You will be integrating data, AI/ML components, and production-ready scaffolding where needed.
Own AI Velocity Engineering: Exploit LLMs, agents, retrieval systems, model orchestration, and workflow automation to compress build cycles and amplify team output. Create tooling and patterns others can reuse.
Customer & Stakeholder Discovery: Jump on calls with government program offices, capture managers, proposal teams, and commercial users to validate problems, test prototypes, and translate feedback into roadmap signals.
Market Sensing & Strategic Experiments: Pair with product and go-to-market leaders to size opportunities, test positioning, and run lightweight demand experiments across verticals, contract vehicles, or capability areas.
Cross-Functional Strike Team: WorkDrop into engineering, data, proposal automation, compliance, or sales work streams to unstick critical paths. Create bridges between teams by shipping glue code, dashboards, adapters, or workflows.
Scale Pathfinding: When a prototype hits traction, work with core engineering to harden, secure, and productionize handing off with documentation, metrics, and clear technical decisions.
Full-Stack Builder: Demonstrated ability to design, code, and deploy end-to-end apps (frontend, backend/API, data, auth, deployment) quickly. You've shipped things users actually touched.
Founder / Indie Hacker DNA: Prior founder, core early engineer, or prolific side-project builder. You're comfortable with incomplete specs and own outcomes end-to-end.
AI Tooling Fluency: Hands-on with LLM APIs, vector stores, RAG, small model fine-tuning, agent frameworks, prompt engineering, and evaluation loops.
Speed With Discipline: You move fast but can also apply the minimum viable security/compliance guardrails required for government and enterprise contexts.
User-Facing Comfort: Skilled at interviewing customers, demoing prototypes, and distilling insights into product direction.
Product & Market Sense: Can weigh technical effort vs. business upside; familiar with GTM motions in B2B / B2G software.
Collaboration Across Functions: Comfortable working with engineers, security, capture/proposal teams, sales, and exec leadership.
Hands-on GovCon Support: Direct experience helping government contractors (primes, subs, 8(a)s, SDVOSBs, mid-tier integrators, etc.) identify opportunities, qualify leads, and respond to RFPs/RFIs/BAAs/SBIRs.
Acquisition Data Fluency: Working knowledge of U.S. Federal procurement data sources and workflows (e.g., SAM.gov, FPDS/FPDS-NG, USA Spending, eBuy, Agency portals) and how contractors operationalize that data.
Proposal Lifecycle Familiarity: Exposure to capture, color-team reviews, compliance matrices, volume assembly, BOEs, past performance packaging, and gated proposal processes (Shipley or equivalent helpful).
Contract Vehicle & Structure Awareness: Understanding of IDIQs, GWACs, MATOCs, OTAs, task order management, set-aside programs, and recompile dynamics that influence product requirements.
GovTech / B2G Product Knowledge: Experience building tooling used by proposal, capture, BD, or contract management teams (internal or external) is a plus.
State & Local or Defense Variant Experience: Bonus if you've supported procurement outside civilian Fed State/local, defense, intel, or international allied governments.
