Slingshot AI
Slingshot AI is the team behind Ash, the first AI designed for therapy. Our mission is to make mental healthcare more accessible and help people change their lives in the ways they want.
We’re building a world-class team by empowering individuals with the autonomy, flexibility, and support they need to do their best work. We dream big, iterate fast, and care deeply. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
Our team spans machine learning, product, engineering, conversational design, clinical, growth, and operations, with offices in both New York City and London.
We're a well-funded Series A company, having raised $93M from Andreessen Horowitz, Radical Ventures, Forerunner Ventures, plus top-tier tech investors involved in ElevenLabs, Captions, Shopify, Plaid, Notion, Canva, Twitch, Airtable, and many others.
The role
We are looking for a brilliant writer to join our small-but-mighty team of experts as we improve mental health access globally. You’ll work alongside writers, designers, psychologists, and machine learning engineers at a lightning-paced startup, crafting a meaningful conversational experience for users from all walks of life. As a conversation designer, you’re ready to directly influence what Ash says and how Ash says it, and you’re eager to shape how conversation design works at Slingshot.
At Slingshot, conversation designers don’t draw the line at Ash’s voice — we understand that nearly every piece of user-facing copy that gets published has a real impact on how people understand Ash’s character. So in addition to knowing how to build a character and talk to people in tough moments, you care about good copy and good emails.
About you:
Strong writer ready to take on lots of dialogue, with a keen ear for how people talk. You’re talented at writing from different viewpoints in a voice that isn’t necessarily your own. We greatly cherish our poets, playwrights, and novelists.
Ready to make an outsized impact on a small team. You’ve worked in fast-paced environments in the past, and you’re eager for close collaboration with engineers, product designers, and clinicians, as well as long stretches of independent work.
Care about the impact of words. You can pinpoint the right moments to be engaging, chatty, or warm. Your unique worldview helps you identify with and understand our users, and you are a passionate advocate for them at every stage.
Not necessarily an expert in psychology, but if you’re not, you’re willing to sit down and study different therapy modalities and psychology frameworks to adapt into a conversational format. You may have been a psych minor in college, or spent time in therapy yourself.
Key responsibilities:
Writing and making targeted edits to therapy dialogues between a user and an AI therapist, which will be used to train our proprietary models. You’re ready to contribute to Slingshot’s best practices in conversation design.
Writing prompts for generative AI to create magical product-level experiences. Some familiarity with XML is appreciated, but don’t worry, we can teach you.
Writing anything our users might come into contact with, including public-facing copy on our website and blog, and within the UI.
Synthesizing perspectives of clinicians, product designers, founders, and fellow writers to create a best-in-class product.
What we offer:
A chance to join a passionate tight-knit team working on something to change the world
Competitive compensation (we target 90th percentile)
Travel between our NYC / London offices
Usual startup perks like free lunch in our offices + generous learning budget
Generous budget to cover your personal therapy
