Skills
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with full stack development proficiency.
- Fluency in backend languages such as Go, Python, Java, Scala or frontend JavaScript ecosystem including ES6+, Typescript, Node.js, React.
- Experience building APIs and data products, understanding data modeling, ETL/ELT, data warehousing, and pipeline architectures.
- Familiarity with AI/ML technologies.
- Knowledge of application and data security best practices.
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product, design, engineers, and newsroom partners to build content data products and APIs within the NYT publishing platform.
- Own significant features or components from requirements through deployment and monitoring.
- Leverage AI to process and transform unstructured archive data into structured data products.
- Ensure code quality, security, and system observability.
- Review peer code and provide feedback.
- Promote robust testing strategies to maintain service reliability.
- Mentor other engineers to support their growth.
- Support and embody the company's journalistic independence and mission.
