OVERVIEW

The University of St. Thomas invites qualified candidates to apply for an Assistant Director, Undergraduate Business Programs (Program Manager I) position within the Opus College of Business.

 

Success in this role requires significant in-person engagement with students, colleagues, and campus visitors so a regular presence on our vibrant St. Paul campus is necessary. After the training period is complete, limited remote work days may be possible during certain times of the academic year.

Salary Range: $61,500 - $67,000

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY

This position provides planning, coordination, and management of co-curricular programming and student success activities for current Opus undergraduate business students, as well as recruiting, orientation, and onboarding events for prospective and incoming new business students. Manages program/student communication processes and tutoring services, and hires/trains/supervises the teams of student interns to provide/execute those services. Leads certain OCB student organizations, while providing support and guidance to other student-led clubs, all with a focus on building community and developing individual students’ leadership skills. All responsibilities and contributions are geared towards improving the Opus students’ overall experience, retention, and success during and after their studies.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

In collaboration with peer Asst. Program Director, manage and advise Opus College of Business student organizations, clubs, and co-curricular activities, including leadership of:

  • Undergraduate Business Council (UBC): The Undergraduate Business Council (UBC) serves as a leadership organization of the undergraduate student body to enhance the Opus experience, foster the common good, and build a community beyond the classroom through programming and activities, while serving as a “voice of students” to the college administration.
    • Recruit, select, train, and develop a team of 12-14 student leaders to represent their peers.
    • Meet biweekly with the council as well as the leadership team.

       

    • Support the execution of council events and initiatives, providing advice, connections, guidance, and feedback.

    • Coach UBC through annual student survey data collection, analysis and presentation of findings.
    • Serve as the liaison between student leaders and administration.
  •  Business Undergraduate Mentorship Program (BUMP): BUMP is a year-long peer-to-peer mentorship program for undergraduate business students. BUMP Peer Mentors provide insight into navigating Opus College of Business, St. Thomas, and the larger business community. The program serves about 65 students annually.
    • Recruit, select, train, and develop a team of about 5-6 student leaders to support management of the BUMP program. Members of the student leadership team also serve as peer mentors in the program.

    • Meet weekly with the team and biweekly with the executive director.

    • Support execution of approximately 12 evening events each year, including orientations, monthly required professional development events, and social events.

    • Support recruitment and selection of mentors and mentees.

  •  Student-led clubs: The Opus College recognizes select student-led clubs that tie into business education and professional/career development.
    • Serve as key liaison between Campus Life and student-led clubs within the business realm.
    • Monitor the executive boards and activities of about 15 undergraduate student business clubs, provide leadership development and engagement opportunities for students, and facilitate interaction by providing guidance for student leaders and club faculty advisors.
  •  Manage Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS): 
    • Manage qualification and invitation processes of honor society for top business students.
  •  Nurture and maintain strong relationships with all Opus College of Business students, faculty, staff and alumni as well as other Twin Cities business leaders and professionals to increase engagement in the Opus student clubs/orgs programming.

Manage Student Support/Success/Retention Resources and Processes:

  • Manage Opus Academic Program(s) Planning digital resource pages and documents for 12 majors and 12 minors serving 2400+ students and 90+ faculty advisors: Manage all program advising and registration digital resources used extensively by Opus faculty advisors and students. Develop and maintain accurate internal OneStThomas Opus undergraduate site pages, degree planning worksheets, suggested courses sequences, etc. Partner with Marketing, Insights, and Communications team to update external webpages when necessary.
  • Collaborate with ITS and STELAR to maintain and update Opus Faculty Advising Canvas Sites
  • Troubleshoot registration questions and degree progress concerns and for students:
    • Students are regularly directed to the program office by Opus faculty advisors, academic counseling office, office of study abroad, registrar, financial aid office, etc.
  • Partner with UBC members on peer registration support programming for early business students
  • Manage tutoring program processes/systems and supervise student tutors:
    • Work closely with department chairs to develop policies, guidelines, and expectations for undergraduate business academic tutors.
    • Recruit, hire, and train a team of approx. 8 peer tutors to support accounting, finance, and operations management core courses.
    • Conduct mid-semester check-ins and performance evaluations.
    • Review usage of tutoring services and ensure our offerings meet student needs.
    • Collaborate with tutor leaders across campus to share resources, best practices, and tools.

Direct student digital communication plans and promotional channels:

  • Manage regular (weekly) student communications: The undergraduate business program communicates with 2400+ students via a weekly newsletter - the McNeely Memo, our internal OneStThomas pages, and through Instagram on @opus_undergrad.
  • Supervise design, content, and publication schedules of McNeely wall-mounted display screen slides and bathroom reader publications
  • Manage student club/event self-promotional signage and postings in accordance with Opus posting policies
  • Supervise digital marketing and Opus summer student interns: Hire, train, and supervise the digital marketing intern team of 3-4 students/semester, and one summer general intern position.
  • Execute emergency response communications: Draft and send timely emails to all students in response to unexpected/crisis events in partnership with the program director/dean’s team.

Admissions and New/Transfer Student Orientation activities:

  • Throughout the year, meet with prospective students in the absence of the senior director for undergraduate programs, as needed.
  • Support the planning and execution of our annual Discover Opus and Scholarship Selection Days.
  • Coordination of the Opus participation in the academic fair during summer orientation for incoming first-time first year and transfer students.

Additional college and academic program support and coordination as assigned:

  • Collaborate with Opus and campus-wide DEI and belonging teams to promote and support various events and initiatives, as needed.
  • Coordinate with Opus faculty and academic depts to design/develop/promote various events and programming.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Three years of professional program management experience in higher education student life (or an equivalent)

Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skill and abilities have been achieved.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, business, education or related field
  • Knowledge of and experience with college student development
