Job Description

The Director of Indoor Events is a regular full-time position reporting to the Chief of Business Operations & Logistics. The successful candidate will be an experienced professional tasked with managing overall events department to include but not limited to managing the overall department budget, staffing, oversee the planning and execution of events, support the governance structure with respect to national events, serve as main point of contact for all national qualifiers, partner and city relationships, customer service and serving as an Event Director for championship events and/or national qualifiers, as needed.

This position requires excellent organization, communication, planning, and coordination skills. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload, and propose and implement policies and procedures. This position answers non-routine correspondence exercising the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Cross departmental support is a general expectation of all USAV employees.  Additional hours may be required to include nights, weekends, and holidays. 


The position is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and is not eligible for a remote work arrangement. 

Requirements

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities include but are not necessarily limited to:

  • Cultivate and champion a positive, inclusive departmental culture that aligns with organizational values, fostering employee engagement, collaboration while delivering high quality outcomes.
  • Engage in the long-range planning and continuous improvement of USAV’s indoor event portfolio, including innovation in format, technology integration, and customer experience.
  • Collaborate with SMEs in the strategic use of event management systems, registration platforms, scheduling tools, and analytics dashboards to improve operational efficiency and enhance participant experiences.
  • Collaborate with the MarComm team to support the maximization of commercial opportunities, branding, and sponsor activation at USAV-owned events.
  • Ensure all events adhere to risk management policies, insurance protocols, and SafeSport compliance, working closely with legal and governance teams.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior leadership, stakeholders, and committees on event performance, participant feedback, and strategic recommendations.
  • Directly oversee, mentor, and evaluate a team of Event Managers, Leads, and Coordinators; assist in hiring, onboarding, and professional development.
  • Champion equity and accessibility across all events by ensuring inclusive practices, venue accessibility, and outreach to underserved communities.
  • Develop and manage a framework for tracking and reporting the economic impact of USAV-owned and licensed events, including hotel room nights, tourism revenue, and local business engagement. Collaborate with host cities, CVBs, and the housing partner to collect data and publish post-event impact reports to support future site negotiations and stakeholder engagement.
  • Responsible for the department’s budget management and annual planning processes. 
  • Work with the COO and supervisor in determining dates and sites for future events to include contract negotiations for the facility, local organizing committee and housing. 
  • Serve as the main point of contact with host cities, interested destinations and venues. Initiate contract negotiations and verify contracts are ready for signature.
  • Assign and supervise Event Managers for the National Championship Events and USAV owned National Qualifiers. Assist supervisor in negotiating agreements for facilities, support services and the local organizing committee (LOC).
  • Provide support to the Event Department Leads in the overall organization and preparation of the USA Volleyball Championships and USAV owned National Qualifiers. 
  • Serve as an Event Director for National Championships and/or USAV owned National Qualifiers.
  • Oversee the distribution of pre-tournament information and materials, collection and verification of registrations, compilation and printing of programs and schedules, and distribution of results by various means for the National Championships, USAV owned National Qualifiers and related events. 
  • Manage the National Qualifiers and Regions bid processes to field teams for USAV Junior National Championships.
  • Maintain communication with volleyball event stakeholders to include qualifier directors, RVAA, Junior Assembly, host cities, and the national office staff.
  • Oversee the evaluation process of National Qualifiers.
  • Manage the relationship with the designated combine service for their attendance at USAV Junior Championship Events and USAV owned Junior National Qualifiers.
  • Work with other USAV departments to coordinate joint projects.
  • Work with the Junior Assembly, RVA Assembly, and Officials Assembly to maximize the quality of all USAV Championship Events. Attend meetings as necessary.
  • Serve as lead with the contracted third-party housing company with the enforcement of the Stay & Play policy and the implementation of current hotel booking policies.
  • Support Events Department staff in identifying and securing independent contractors for USAV National Championship Events and USAV owned Junior National Qualifiers.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of the Events Bid Manuals & RFP process. 
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the Championship Manuals.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Business Administration, related degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum seven years’ progressive experience in event management.
  • Proven experience with event scheduling and seeding and serve as a resource in event management and scheduling.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience. 
  • Proven experience developing and managing budget lines. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead team to achieve departmental objectives.
  • Ability to maintain high pace and prioritize competing demands of department, partners, and customers. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings as required.
  • Must successfully pass a USAV background screen (prior to hire date). 
  • Must complete SafeSport training within two weeks of hire date and keep current as a condition of continued employment.

Salary: $90,000 - $110,000
