Are you a hands-on leader with a passion for process improvement and team development? We're seeking a Depot Repair Manager to lead repair operations for high-tech optical medical devices. In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee a team of technicians, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure the repair process runs efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with industry regulations. You'll collaborate across departments and act as the technical voice for the repair function, all while helping to advance quality patient care.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic and tactical plans to improve repair processes, reduce costs, and increase throughput using Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing) to align repair operations with business objectives and resolve repair or quality issues.
  • Lead and mentor a team of 5–10 technicians in a regulated AS9100 and FDA-compliant environment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and corrective action for recurring repair issues.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training documentation for all repair activities.
  • Oversee budgeting, staffing, capacity planning, and resource management for the Depot Repair area.
  • Represent the repair team during product development, providing input on serviceability, tooling, and material flow.
  • Coordinate facility planning, equipment needs, and layout optimization for depot repair space.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Manage internal and external communication regarding repair issues, metrics, and progress toward performance goals.
  • Support technical training for field service teams and act as a technical liaison across departments.
  • Lead workshops and facilitate training to disseminate best practices and technical knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in a high-tech manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Experience in medical device or optical product repair preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in leading process improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of electro-mechanical systems and hands-on troubleshooting ability.
  • Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, and FDA regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team development skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, and familiarity with manufacturing software (e.g., SAP, FSM).
  • Experience creating technical documentation, including work instructions and training materials.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The ideal candidate must be able to fulfil the physical requirements of the role, with or without reasonable accommodation. These include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, communicate effectively, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, phone, and related equipment. This role may also require reaching, stooping, kneeling, walking short distances, and lifting or carrying parcels or small equipment.  The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
