Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis

About Us:

Blockworks is a financial media brand that delivers breaking news and premium insights about digital assets to millions of investors. Our content, newsletters, podcasts, and events provide investors with the critical analysis and information they need to make smarter decisions about digital assets.

Who You Are:

You consider yourself a financial planning guru and truly enjoy designing, developing and performing financial analysis on key metrics and KPIs, providing valuable data-driven insights to support decision-making. You thrive in the financial details and enjoy using deep analysis to help shape a compelling narrative. You're excited at the opportunity to assess company performance while tracking economic and business trends in an effort to help craft financial plans that maximize outcomes.

You're operationally minded and know that the path to sustainability and success comes from an unrelenting focus on efficiency and effectiveness. You love diving into processes to look for new ways to improve and optimize financial performance. You're at home partnering with other leaders across the organization to help them understand their current costs and brainstorm news ways to reduce spending while increasing performance.

What You’ll Do:

As our Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis, you will provide hands-on leadership in shaping, driving, and executing all Accounting and Finance Operations at Blockworks. You'll be responsible for helping to shape the overall direction for our financial planning and analysis function, including strategy design, process definition and improvement, and overall finance team leadership and organizational support.

Every day will look a little different, but in general, you will do things like:

  • Drive Accounting Policy and Strategy: You will be responsible for the design, education, and implementation of accounting strategies, policies and practices, ensuring that they are in line with investor relations expectations and are clearly and concisely communicated to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Own Monthly Accounting and Reporting Workflows: You will own the entire month-end process, including reviewing and approving the financials (closing the books), proactive communication of results, and ensuring all business-as-usual FP&A documents accurately reflect the most recent month of actuals.

  • Oversee Tax, Audit, and Insurance Management: You'll partner with internal and external experts to drive compliance and performance across our Tax, Audit, and Insurance domains, making sure associated policies and processes are clearly defined, executed on time, and general performance meets or exceeds board governance standards.

  • Oversee Cayman Island Operations: You will manage the end-to-end Cayman Islands deal flow and accounting process, ensuring that all deals and treasury management strategies are executed in compliance with Blockworks Policy and Legal Counsel advice.

  • Manage Payroll: You'll partner with the People & Culture team to review and approve payroll, ensuring that all employees and contractors are paid accurately and on time.

  • Team Leadership: You'll recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing team members, making sure to foster collaboration, development, and performance while aligning the team's roadmap with organizational goals and initiatives.

Experimentation is frequent at Blockworks. Comfortability with being uncomfortable is a must.

What You’ve Done Before:

First and foremost, you are a CPA (or equivalent) with a keen eye for detail and a focus on telling a 100% accurate story with data. You consider yourself highly analytical and love spending time inside BI and reporting tools to help you learn directly from the data. You love diving into complex problems and have a high level of commercial instincts. You have played a major role in helping a company coordinate simple and effective finance processes, both remotely and in person.

You are a crypto enthusiast who believes in the future of crypto and decentralized finance. You consider yourself a high-integrity individual who believes in doing the right thing, even under the most challenging circumstances. Lastly, you have regularly improved your craft by using technology and cutting-edge industry insights.

It’d Be Great If You’ve Done This:

Experience in the crypto, finance, or startup industries will move you to the top of the list. Significant experience in finance and accounting at another fast-growing startup, along with knowledge of crypto, media, and technology, may also set you apart from other candidates. Lastly, we'd love to have someone with a connection to the crypto industry or the Blockworks brand (either a podcast or a newsletter) that can speak to some of the content.
