What The Role Entails


The Electrical Design Manager will collaborate with CHQ Development and third-party engineering teams to develop electrical system designs for data centers across the Americas with a focus on cutting edge technology and sustainability.


The Electrical Design Manager has a thorough understanding of Electrical Systems which support Critical Environments and an understanding of related mechanical systems. This knowledge enables them to work with the entire CHQ team, including partners, customers, and vendors. This individual’s experience allows them to appreciate customer requirements and provide tailored solutions, accordingly.


The Electrical Design Manager’s experience allows them to develop growth plans and implement solutions for current and future CHQ’s data centers across different regions and climates of North America and LATAM. They will work closely with CHQ’s consultants, contractors and partners to define new projects and existing site expansions. This individual is responsible for coordinating electrical designs and specifications, supporting budget reviews and construction efforts. Working closely with the CHQ’s Operations Teams, this person will help maximize efficiencies and reliability.


The successful individual will be responsible for contributing to company-wide developments and influencing the design of the data centers that CloudHQ constructs. The CloudHQ team is at an early stage of growth so the role offers an exciting advancement opportunity for an entrepreneurial individual with a keen attention to engineering detail. 


The role will require involvement in the full development cycle from early-stage masterplans and concept designs through construction, delivery, and beyond into facility operations.


What You Will Get to Do

  • The successful applicant will be able to anticipate CloudHQ business needs and develop appropriate contingency measures, working proactively to deliver best-in-class data centers alongside the CloudHQ Development team.
  • Lead the concept design of electrical systems, liaising with the wider CloudHQ internal and external consultant teams; with a high degree of focus on delivering low-energy, sustainable solutions.
  • Manage third-party consultant teams to develop detailed electrical designs, challenging the consultants to continually evolve and improve the CloudHQ standard design. Analyzing project specifications, developing work schedules, and delegating tasks to different teams.
  • Liaise with our customers to assist them in the delivery of their preferred solutions into CloudHQ data centers and aid us in being the data center provider of choice for all our customers.
  • Provide support during the construction procurement process, reviewing installed work and checking for compliance. Work with our contractors and vendors to ensure all construction work is best value for CloudHQ and our end customers.
  • Collaborates with CHQ Operations team to ensure design standards and best practices are meeting expectations and requirements. 
  • Undertake research into solutions and designs that will benefit CloudHQ. Continually be engaged with data center design thought leaders, always striving to be ahead of the curve on the latest innovations in the market.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally – Construction,  Procurement, Operations, Sales, Product, Marketing, Corporate Development, etc – to represent and develop all data center design requirements.
  • Liaise with CloudHQ worldwide colleagues to ensure uniform standards across all CloudHQ global developments.
  • Evangelizes CHQ's designs and core design philosophies, such as reliability, safety, sustainability, and cost-efficiency, with internal and external customers and suppliers.
  • Educate the public on the sustainable features of the data center design and how data center centralization is good for the greater environment, with elimination of old less efficient spaces. 
  • Present projects to the local planning commissioners, boards and broader public. 
  • Provides and presents master planning/concept designs as part of CHQ's investment planning, review, and approval process.


Requirements

 What You Bring to The Role

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, Electrical Engineering or a technology-related discipline
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in successfully leading and managing teams, projects, or programs to determine and implement company-level strategic objectives.
  • Previous experience in electrical engineering /project management.
  • Strong and in-depth working knowledge and proven performance of data center design. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate active and direct design experience and skills in data center Electrical, and Controls engineering management.
  • Critical thinker and problem solver.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously and effectively.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with a team, as well as work independently, applying individual expertise.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively interface directly with clients.
  • Willingness to travel locally, nationally, and internationally on a regular basis. 
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to apply company values to the execution of organizational strategy
