Senior Product Designer, GenAI Studio

Senior Product Designer, GenAI Studio

College Board - Technology

Location: This is a fully remote role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office).

Type: This is a full-time position

About the Team

College Board is taking a mission-first approach to generative AI, envisioning a future where humans drive responsible generative AI transformation within education. As the technology evolves, we’re accelerating experimentation and building staff capacity with purpose and care. Our aim is simple: deliver outsized value through ethical, real-world applications that serve students, educators, and members.

The GenAI Studio is College Board’s internal innovation engine behind this work. Launched in 2024, the Studio exists to accelerate experimentation and unlock the transformative potential of GenAI in service of our mission.

Spanning our Strategy and Technology divisions, we are a cross-functional, entrepreneurial team unified by a shared belief that AI, when guided by ethics and rigor, can enhance learning outcomes and operational excellence. From workforce enablement to product R&D, the Studio operates at the forefront of the GenAI landscape: enabling a culture of experimentation, building cutting-edge tools, and embedding human-centered AI innovation and literacy throughout our ecosystem. Join us in turning bold ideas into real impact for millions of students.

About the Opportunity

As a Senior Product Designer on our entrepreneurial research team at the College Board, you will be a creative and pragmatic design leader who thrives in ambiguity and moves ideas rapidly from concept to prototype. You bring strong user-centered instincts and are energized by designing early-stage solutions that push the boundaries of what’s possible—without the constraints of full-scale production.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with researchers, data scientists, and engineers to explore new ideas, build prototypes, and generate insights that inform the future direction of our products and services. You’re excited to co-create in a fast-moving environment, test assumptions with real users, and iterate quickly based on what you learn. You value scrappiness, evidence, and creativity over polish and perfection.

You are self-directed but highly collaborative—seeking input often, sharing ideas openly, and helping the team clarify what to build next. You bring clarity to open-ended problem spaces, distilling complex user needs into design hypotheses and tangible prototypes. You also care deeply about inclusive design and accessibility, and you bring this lens to even the earliest exploration stages.

In this role, you will

Design Strategy and User Research  (50%)

  • Design Thinking. Apply design thinking within complex education ecosystems to deeply understand user needs, reframe complex problems, and drive the creation of intuitive, scalable, and human-centered product solutions.

  • Research. Constantly conduct and synthesize generative, formative, and evaluative research, using methods such as user interviews, usability testing, and surveys.

  • Research Planning and Strategy: Effectively manage and prioritize research plans through ambiguous and fast-changing environments, align and efficiently execute critical insights and work with a large group of stakeholders

  • Design with Users. Facilitate workshops and co-creation sessions to align teams and uncover opportunities.

  • Data into Insights. Work with Data Scientist to interpret quantitative data insights and turn user, behavioral, and operational data into actionable insights.

  • Prioritization. Influence prioritization and roadmapping efforts by connecting user needs with business goals and mission.

  • User Advocacy. Champion human-centered and inclusive design principles.

  • Storytelling. Use strategic storytelling to communicate vision, value, and direction.

Design Execution and Delivery (25%)

  • Product Design. Work closely with product, engineering teams, and subject matter experts to translate concepts into designs, creating artifacts such as user flows, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, and at times high-fidelity UI design. Design and create user experience prototypes and individually contribute to AI experimentation learnings and emergent product discovery.

  • Design Systems. Apply design systems, ensuring visual and functional consistency as appropriate for prototyping.

  • Content Strategy. Write and test content using plain language for clarity and accessibility.

  • Testing. Conduct user testing to validate design decisions.

  • Artificial Intelligence. Experiment with generative AI tools to support ideation and prototyping.

  • Tools. Use tools like Figma with proficiency to improve efficiency and prototyping speed.

Collaboration and Communication (15%)

  • Collaborate. Collaborate with product managers, engineers, researchers, leadership, and other stakeholders . throughout the design and development process.

  • Ceremonies. Participate in standups, sprint planning, design reviews, design critiques, and QA cycles.

  • Specifications. Translate research insights and design decisions into clear specifications for implementation.

  • Presenting. Present ideas, research findings, and designs with confidence and clarity including for high-level leadership and stakeholder audiences.

  • Design Operations. Contribute to company-wide design efforts, including shared tools, systems, and templates.

Growth and Culture (10%)

  • Teaching. Mentor junior designers or peers through pairing and feedback.

  • Continuous Learning. Continuously invest in personal development and share emerging tools, trends, and provocations.

  • Organizational Support. Support design education efforts such as lunch & learns, design critiques, and by contributing to internal documentation.

  • Hiring. Participate in hiring and onboarding activities, when necessary.

  • 3–7 years of experience in product or service design.

  • A product design mindset and experience designing for complex, content-rich websites and applications, including strong skills in creating and communicating design artifacts, such as user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs.

  • Proficiency in design thinking and human-centered methodologies, with the ability to reframe challenges and translate insights into actionable design direction.

  • Strong skills in information design, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI design, with fluency in Figma.

  • Experience applying generative and evaluative research methods, along with facilitation skills to lead workshops and co-creation sessions.

  • A strong understanding of design systems, responsive design, and accessibility standards, including designing for web and native mobile platforms.

    • A drive for impact and excellence: solving complex problems, making data-informed decisions, prioritizing what matters most, and continuously improving through learning, user input, and external benchmarking.

    • A collaborative and empathetic approach: working across differences, fostering trust, and contributing to a culture of shared success.

    About Our Process
