​​About the Role:

The Compounding Operations Excellence Specialist – Solid Dose is responsible for leading continuous improvement initiatives and optimizing the compounding processes involved in the manufacturing of solid oral dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, and granules. This role focuses on enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting cross-functional teams to achieve operational excellence.

 

You Will:

Operational Excellence & Process Improvement

  • Lead Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives to optimize compounding workflows (e.g., blending, granulation, drying).

  • Analyze equipment and process bottlenecks to improve throughput and reduce waste.

  • Implement process standardization and best practices across shifts and teams.

Compounding Operations Support

  • Provide technical oversight and operational guidance for the compounding area.

  • Troubleshoot deviations or performance issues related to batch mixing, material handling, or environmental conditions.

  • Collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering to ensure equipment readiness and uptime.

Compliance & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all compounding activities are compliant with cGMP, FDA, and internal quality standards. Maintain compliance with USP <795>, <797>, and <800> (as applicable) and other regulatory guidelines.

  • Support investigations (e.g., deviations, OOS events) and implement effective CAPAs.

  • Conduct routine audits and gap assessments of compounding SOPs and practices.

Training & Documentation

  • Develop, review, and maintain SOPs, batch records, and cleaning procedures.

  • Deliver hands-on training to compounding operators on new or revised processes.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert during regulatory inspections or internal audits.

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with R&D and Tech Transfer teams to scale up new products into commercial production.

  • Partner with Quality, Engineering, and Validation to support change control and equipment qualification.

 

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Science/Engineering or Business Administration or related field.

  • 3–7 years of experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, specifically in solid dose compounding.

  • Demonstrated success in leading process improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma).

  • Strong understanding of cGMP, FDA regulations, and pharmaceutical quality systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.

  • Familiarity with electronic batch records (EBR), manufacturing execution systems (MES), and ERP tools (e.g., SAP).

  • Experience with high-shear mixers, fluid bed dryers, bin blenders, and other compounding equipment.

  • Excellent communication and team leadership skills.

Conditions of Employment: 

  • This position will require working with Hazardous Drugs (HD) and would require that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) be worn for the length of working with these drugs. These items would include gloves, respiratory protection, gown and other items as required.

  • This position requires medical approval to wear respiratory protection in the form of negative or positive pressure respirators, including N95, full face respirator, SCBA, or Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR).

  • Physical exertion required. Including, but not limited to, walking up to 50% of the time, standing up to 100% of the time, squatting and bending up to 20% of the time and lifting up to 80% of the time for up to a twelve hour shift. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

  • Due to the risk of reproductive capability in handling or compounding certain Hazardous Drugs (HD) associates must be willing to confirm that they understand the potential risks (teratogenicity, carcinogenicity and reproductive effects) of handling hazardous drugs.
