Indirect Tax Manager
The Indirect Tax Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of indirect tax compliance, planning, and reporting including sales and use, property, and other operating taxes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of indirect tax impacts for the manufacturing industry and will play a key role in ensuring compliance, minimizing risk, and identifying tax savings opportunities. This position reports directly to the VP, Tax, North America.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all indirect tax returns, including coordination with third party advisors
- Manage audits and inquiries from tax authorities, including preparation of audit-ready workpapers and responses to information requests
- Serve as adviser to operations, purchasing, procurement, legal, and accounting teams to identify and implement tax savings strategies and provide guidance on tax impacts of operations and contracts
- Partner with other departments as needed to ensure complete and accurate business reporting
- Coordination with other departments as necessary for responses to unclaimed property examinations and annual reporting
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting the business and provide communications to stakeholders and updates to systems and processes as needed
- Preparation of monthly account reconciliations
- Identify and implement improvements to processes, workpapers, and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA preferred
- Six plus years of experience in indirect tax; manufacturing experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of U.S. indirect tax laws and regulations; VAT, GST/HST is a plus
- Experience with various ERP systems a plus
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and reconciliation skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
