Presbyterian is seeking a PACU and PreOp nurse to join the Surgical Services Unit at the Santa Fe Medical Center. In this role you will be rotated throughout the surgical services unit to include all Pre Op/PACU and Recovery
Recovery Room Nurses care for patients who are recovering from anesthesia after surgery. They monitor post-operation vital signs, assess levels of consciousness, and carefully observe patients for any side effects from anesthesia.
Pre Op Nurses work with patients prior to surgery to complete paperwork, and help answer questions or calm fears about surgery.
PACU and Pre Op nurses are responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide direct patient care to an assigned group of patients during a shift. Responsible for prioritizing the delivery of direct nursing care using time and resources efficiently integrating a standards based framework model.

This position is eligible for the Northern New Mexico differential of $4.00 per hour. (This differential may be adjusted or discontinued based on business requirements.)
Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and documenting individual patient needs, actions taken, and patient responses.
Coordinates patient care through collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare team.
Performs assessments according to unit standards and documents findings appropriately.
Initiates, utilizes, and documents protocols and standards of care.
Administers medications and treatments as prescribed or per protocol, and documents per policy.
Identifies and meets patient and family learning and discharge needs throughout the care episode.
Evaluates patient progression toward outcomes and documents accordingly.
Performs competently in emergency situations.
Delegates or assigns aspects of patient care based on team members’ validated competencies.
Assumes responsibility for clinical supervision of LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel.
Provides leadership through communication and validation of patient care.
Assists with or delegates procedures, treatments, and surgical techniques as appropriate.
Completes education and competency testing specific to patient population, age, procedures, and protocols.
Demonstrates competency in required psychomotor skills.
Assists in orientation of new staff or students and serves as a resource and role model.
Assumes professional responsibility for current nursing structure and clinical standards of care.
Incorporates PHS mission (VVPS) into caregiving activities.
Supports DON philosophies of shared governance and care delivery models.
Assumes leadership roles such as relief charge nurse when required.
Meets professional requirements including:
Age-specific training for caregiving, treatment, and assessments.
Completion of mandatory yearly inservices (e.g., BLS, safety, infection control).
Participation in unit/department governance.
Adherence to professional dress code and ID badge display.
Documentation of continuing education.
Maintenance of positive communication and relationships.
Participation in quality improvement activities.
Reliable and punctual attendance.
Timely completion of mandatory inservices, competencies, and licensure.
Compliance with safety and equipment policies.
