Marketer / Head of Growth

Who we are & why we’re hiring

At Probably Good, our mission is to empower people to build careers that are good for them and good for the world. We research high-impact career paths, publish online content, host a global job board, and provide one-on-one advising, among a range of other services.

Our reach has grown rapidly over the past year, and with a substantial grant from Open Philanthropy and a new Executive Director leading the org, we’re ready to scale our services and expand our team!

This is an exciting opportunity to join our small organization at a pivotal time – taking on a high-impact role that could shape the careers of people across the globe. You’ll be joining a remote, flexible, and collaborative team that values meaningful work and keeps bureaucracy to a minimum, so we can focus on what truly matters and make things happen together.

The role

As a Marketer / Head of Growth, you will work on a range of projects, like running digital marketing campaigns, setting up A/B tests on our website, and helping with outreach to relevant groups. This is an exciting hands-on role, where you’ll have significant autonomy to get things done, combining marketing, technical, and editorial work. It’s also a fairly unique opportunity to work on marketing and growth in an impact-focused context.

What you'll do

In your first year of this role, you might do things like:

  • Grow the number of visitors to the website by running digital marketing campaigns.

  • Increase the number of newsletter subscribers from the website by running A/B tests to improve the conversion rate.

  • Use LinkedIn to increase our reach, via both posting and direct messages.

  • Guide the design and creation of new website content that could interest our target audience.

  • Help our advisors do outreach for our career-impact workshops at scale.

  • Improve our analytics systems so we can do better M&E and determine what works and what doesn’t.

Much of this work will be start-to-finish, with you owning the process from doing research, to creating content, posting it, monitoring analytics, and so on. You’ll have significant support from the rest of the team in this (especially our Executive Director, who was previously our Head of Growth), and might also work alongside the marketing agency we’re currently collaborating with (Good Impressions).

This is a somewhat nontraditional marketing role, in the sense that we’re focused on increasing positive impact, rather than sales or donations. Much of the work is the same–from figuring out user personas to optimizing metrics like CPA–but you’ll particularly enjoy the work if you care about making a difference using an analytical approach.

What makes someone a great fit for this role

  • Getting things done mentality: You understand the importance of moving fast, and are interested in doing significant hands-on work.

  • Technical confidence: You're comfortable diving into new tools and platforms, setting up automations, and using AI to augment your technical capabilities.

  • Data-driven: You develop hypotheses about what could work, test them, and update accordingly.

  • Rapid learning: You can quickly become proficient in new software platforms and understand how to leverage their full capabilities.

  • Adaptability: You can handle a range of tasks as needed, and probably see yourself as a generalist to some extent.

  • Good communication: You communicate clearly and directly wherever needed, whether it’s to ask a question or share documentation.

In terms of technical platforms, we use tools like WordPress (as a primary CMS), Google Analytics & Google Tag Manager, MailerLite (for newsletters), Zapier (for automations), Airtable (as a CRM, though we’ll likely switch soon to Hubspot or Salesforce), Claude & Midjourney (for AI tools), and others. You don’t have to know these particular tools, but familiarity with them (especially Google Analytics) can help, and you need to be willing to learn how to use relevant tools where needed.

Practical details

  • Seniority: We’re open to hiring people with different levels of experience, but want to highlight that this role is about doing a lot of hands-on work.

  • Titles: We’re flexible about titles and happy to discuss them at the offer stage.

  • Salary: We offer a competitive salary, which will depend on experience and location. Currently, we hire people as contractors, and we’ll switch them to employees by the end of 2025.

  • Full-time/part-time: We’re open to hiring people anywhere from 60%-100% FTE.

  • Work style: Our team is fully remote and highly autonomous, so the work is highly flexible as long as things get done. We do aim for some overlap each day between work hours though, to facilitate communication between team members.

  • Location: We will prioritize candidates at or near GMT 0 to -5, and candidates need to have at least 3 hours of overlap with US East Coast morning work hours each day. We don’t currently sponsor work visas.

  • Timeline: We will close the role to applications on 27 July, and expect to make an offer from this hiring round by around the end of September, and for a new hire to start by the end of October, but there is flexibility for the right candidate.

The nature of our mission requires us to consider multiple perspectives, which is only possible by making Probably Good a welcoming place to work. We recognize that factors like gender, race, and socioeconomic status can influence people’s willingness to apply for roles even when they’re highly qualified. If you’re excited about our mission but worry you might not be good enough or that your background doesn’t perfectly align, we encourage you to still apply. And if you have any concerns or need adjustments for accessibility, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at team@probablygood.org.
