Job Description:

The Nebraska State Historical Society is seeking a collaborative and energetic digital educator to serve as an Education Associate. As a member of the Education team and while working across several NSHS teams, the Education Associate will develop, implement, and execute virtual programming on historical topics for various audiences, including K-12, adults, and families. The Education Associate will also work closely with other Education team members to develop and implement their onsite programming. A person in this position will get to use their passion and creativity to create engaging learning experiences for our wide and varied audiences.

The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Job duties

  • Plans, promotes, organizes, and delivers new and existing statewide K-12, adult, and family virtual programming.

  • Collaborates closely with other members of the Education and other NSHS teams, including historic sites, Visitor Services, IT, and Exhibits to create and execute programming and events.

  • Prepares surveys and metrics to report on program plans, proposed budgets, activity reports, and attendance records.

  • Conducts accurate, historical research projects.

  • Collaborates on creating and conducting onsite programming.

  • Coordinates with other agency staff to complete projects and meet agency goals and objectives.

  • Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to helping other departments, participating in interdepartmental committees and working groups, and participating in community outreach events.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in History or related field such as: Education, Museum Studies, Geography, or Anthropology AND two years of experience in museum curatorial work, providing educational programming, or providing interpretive tours. 

 

Preferred Qualifications: Education, history, or public history background and familiarity with state and/or national education standards.

 

Other: This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

- Ability to work evenings and weekends for events and programming, on occasion.

- Enthusiastically committed to the organization’s core values and demonstrates them regularly in their work.
