Corporate Director of Procurement

Overview

Backed by over 100 years of expertise and driven by innovation and an entrepreneurial spirit, Shimmick is one of the most dynamic infrastructure builders in the industry. With market leadership in water resources, sustainable transportation, and complex electrical construction, we’re well-positioned to lead during a time of rapid change. As project delivery models, regulatory frameworks, supply chains, and technology continue to evolve, our ability to stay flexible and agile in our procurement approach is essential to our success.

As Corporate Director of Procurement, you’ll have an opportunity to shape the systems and processes behind one of the nation’s leading heavy civil infrastructure builders. In this high-impact role, you’ll lead companywide procurement operations to drive greater efficiency and directly influence performance and success across our company.

Reporting to the CFO and working closely with the CEO, you’ll work across operations, finance, legal, IT, and project teams. As the company’s top procurement leader, you’ll be responsible for developing and evolving policies, standardizing practices, and implementing systems that improve field execution, mitigate risk, and strengthen the bottom line.

Responsibilities

The Corporate Director of Procurement will lead and influence the following areas:

  • Companywide procurement and materials management: Oversee all activities required to acquire materials, equipment, and services that meet project or company specifications, ensuring timely delivery to the point of use and alignment with quality, value, and contractual requirements.

  • Standardization of procurement processes: Develop and implement companywide procurement protocols, including the creation and maintenance of standardized contract templates and procedures.
  • Performance monitoring and risk mitigation: Track procurement and materials management progress, identifying potential issues early and resolving changes, disputes, or claims in a timely and effective manner.
  • Contract negotiation and compliance oversight: Lead the review, negotiation, and approval of all subcontracts and purchase orders, ensuring adherence to company policies and risk management protocols. Evaluate and negotiate contracts with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Document and sourcing review: Approve source lists, bid analysis summaries, purchase orders, subcontracts, and other procurement-related documents in close collaboration with operations and estimating teams.
  • Supplier ethics and best value selection: Maintain oversight of controls that ensure suppliers are treated fairly and ethically, company interests are protected, and best-value awards are consistently achieved.
  • Proposal and business development support: Provide procurement expertise to support new business pursuits and proposal development efforts.
  • Market intelligence and continuous improvement: Monitor industry trends to identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and more efficient use of procurement resources.
