Senior Accountant
Overview
Singer Equipment Company is seeking a senior level Staff Accountant for our Utica, NY location. The position offers ample learning opportunities as you will have hands-on experience in all aspects of the business.
The Senior Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting for business activities and managing the accounting close process, including preparing the balance sheet and income statement. This role will prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and analyses while establishing as needed, best practices, policies, and procedures. The Senior Accountant will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Operations, and Senior Leadership, to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data.
This position will play a significant role in the transition to a new ERP system.
This role is in office and the annual salary range is 65,000 to 75,000.
Responsibilities
- Assistant in accounts receivable function processing AR checks and ACHs
- Bank account and credit card reconciliations
- Responsible for electronic distribution/physical mailing of invoices.
- Issue payments and refunds
- Maintain sales tax certificates and assist in filing state sales tax returns.
- Help sales and other departments with questions about accounting related matters
- Assist in reconciliations of subledger to general ledgers
- Assist in implementing accounting systems and tools to streamline financial operations
- Own various accounting close processes
- Assist with financial reporting, including the preparation of monthly financial statements
- Assist in day-to-day AP function as needed
- Support external audit by providing required documentation and analysis
- Ensure compliance with company policies
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to increase efficiency
- Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned or as necessary

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- A minimum of 2-4 years or relevant accounting experience
- Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
