Who we are looking for

This position is a Relationship Manager within the Alternatives segment.  The successful candidate will have responsibility for a number of large State Street strategic clients that are serviced across fund domiciles in North America, EMEA and APAC. The role presents an opportunity to engage with senior executives both internally and at industry leading alternatives managers to help shape and drive State Street’s strategy in servicing a number of strategic clients in North America.


Relationships Managers are the driving force of growth, serving as the holistic commercial owners of the client relationship and P&L, with a focus on expanding and deepening client relationships, owning client sentiment, protecting and growing revenue, and improving profitability

As part of the remit, the Relationship Manager will cultivate a deep understanding of the client’s business and the services provided by State Street, with the objective of optimizing client satisfaction, ensuring that the client experiences an excellent client experience at State Street. 

Individual accountabilities include client & STT strategic alignment, thought leadership, client communication, monitoring satisfaction levels and sharing feedback internally, seeking out strategic revenue opportunities and relationship governance.
The Relationship Manager will collaborate with internal stakeholders in commercial negotiations, and will ensure compliance with contract terms. The Relationship Manager will be responsible for driving the overall top line revenue growth as well as working with key stakeholders to expand margins.

What you will be responsible for

As Relationship Manager you will:

  • Strategic account management and growth: Own and manage the client P&L, including development and execution of account plans; monitor client financial performance; identify opportunities for client and business growth to reach revenue, sales, profitability, and sentiment targets
  • Client engagement and relationship-building: serve as the primary point of contact for executive clients and ultimate owner of the client relationship; conduct face-to-face meetings and visits while acting as the bridge between clients and internal teams (e.g., Product)
  • Commercial oversight and contract management: Lead contract negotiations, fee schedule updates, and the rebid process, aligning client needs and business objectives
  • Service and performance governance: Oversee SLA commitments; address service credits; ensure adherence to critical governance/regulatory processes and requirements
  • Client insights and feedback: Share and analyze NPS results; collaborate internally to drive improvements; engage with clients around market, regulatory, and client developments as well as internal product developments
  • Maintains all relevant data for their assigned accounts in SF360 CRM including but not limited to account information, contacts, opportunities, meetings, current providers insights, and campaigns.
  • Serves as an escalation point for critical service issues or roadblocks. Shepherds issues through to resolution.
  • Assists with client presentation preparation, client meetings, product collaboration, RFPs and sales execution. 
  • Develops and reports on client(s) metrics and dashboards. Accountable for meeting assigned KPIs.
  • Manages the finalization of Due Diligence Questionnaires for this client when received.
  • In conjunction with onboarding teams ensures client onboarding for new assets and/or risk management activities are conducted with a high degree of client satisfaction.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset: Anticipate and respond to client needs, identify and realize growth opportunities with key accounts, construct execution plans
  • Strong and compelling communications (written and verbal): Support deal negotiations, respond to critical client queries and escalations, and deliver effective presentations

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree, prefer major in finance/management
  • CFA and / or MBA a plus
  • 15 years experience in financial services
  • Understanding of both Hedge and Private Market Clients
  • Consulting background a plus

Salary Range:

$170,000 - $267,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
