Product Cost Specialist

Role Summary:  Responsible for accurately maintaining cost records in SAP as well as identifying opportunities to negotiate better costs for Summit.  This person must effectively partner with Demand Planning, Service Center Leaders, Operations Managers, Account Managers and branch-level Accounts Payable Associates to maintain a high level of accuracy in our systems in a timely manner.  The purpose of this role is to support internal associates to enable them to service our customers while maximizing profitability.

Principal Accountabilities (essential job functions)

• Responsible for maintaining accurate Market Cost in SAP for assigned categories
• Investigate and conduct root cause analysis of any cost discrepancies between Summit and manufacturer price files
• Review cost changes from manufacturers to identify negotiation opportunities
• Maintain reporting for internal stakeholders on Manual Cost entry by Sales team
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Essential Skills and Experience

• High level of Customer focus – both internal and external
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
• Detail oriented and highly analytical
• Proven ability to maintain several concurrent activities while utilizing strong time management skills
• Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision or guidance
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written
• Ability to effectively adapt to change and thrive in a stimulating, hectic work environment
• Proven do “whatever it takes” attitude and approach to work
• High School diploma or GED equivalent is required

Beneficial Skills and Experience

• 3+ years of successful work experience ideally in wholesale distribution
• Experience working with ERP software (SAP/Vistex)
• Knowledge of database architecture and maintenance
• Understanding of discounting, pricing and basic accounting
• Knowledge of electrical products
• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred

Physical Challenges

• Majority of day (85%+) is spent sitting at desk
• Must be able to lift 5 pounds on a regular and consistent basis
• Regular and consistent use of keyboard
• Ability to climb stairs on occasion
• Majority of role is performed in an office environment during regular store hours of operation
• Additional challenges may arise at which time Summit may revise this job description
