The Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences at Prairie View A&M University invites applications for the post-doctoral position of Brown Foundation Scholar-in-Residence for the RJS Center for Race and Justice. The selected individual will be responsible for conducting research based on the scholar’s existing research that fits well with the overall mission of the RJS Center for Race and Justice. The Scholar-in-Residence would also work with ongoing Center research projects that fit with their research interests. The scholar will also be expect to present their work to the campus community at the end of their residency year. The College is seeking a candidate for a 9-month appointment position.
The mission of the Ruth J. Simmons Center for Race and Justice is to address the persistent biases caused by racism and to propose policies and practices that can help to eliminate those biases. The Center will host scholarly symposia, house research fellows, and foster outreach programs that are aimed at understanding the complex interplay between racial discrimination and differentiation and conceptions of justice. It will be a convener and facilitator of research-based conversations that help frame national discussions about how we can eliminate racial injustice and foster greater collaboration in our society.
Responsibilities:
Conduct research on a scholarly project that leads to a public presentation at the end of the academic year.
Participate in administration and planning of the RJS Center for Race and Justice, including helping to plan symposiums, consulting on research projects related to scholar’s interests, and engaging with Undergraduate Scholars.
Hold regular office hours to consult with students and related faculty on campus.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Earned Doctorate degree in a humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary field.
Evidence of scholarship, research and creative endeavors.
Experience teaching and mentoring students
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Appropriate research methodologies for their field(s).
Ability to communicate and collaborate well with others.
Above par writing and analytical skills.
