The CoCounsel team is seeking a Sr. Software Development Engineer to join our growing Engineering organization. You will work on the CoCounsel Applications team to develop cutting-edge legal technology solutions. In this role, you will help design, build, and test applications for both customers and internal users.


Our ideal candidate is someone who has received a CS/EE/Computer Engineering degree with several years of professional experience building applications used by real customers, excels in communication, is a fast learner, and thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment. About the Role 
In this opportunity as Sr. Software Development Engineer, you will:

  • Design, develop, and test software solutions that meet user and business needs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve bugs and system issues
  • Collaborate closely with a small, high-impact engineering team to build and support SaaS products
  • Partner cross-functionally with Product Management, Design, and other teams to shape feature requirements and technical solutions
  • Review and test code contributions through pull requests and conduct peer feedback
  • Mentor and pair with junior engineers to support team growth and skill development
  • Contribute to maintaining high standards in code quality, testing, and reliability


About You
You’re a fit for the role of Sr. Software Development Engineer if you have the following required qualifications:

  • Strong JavaScript experience across both client and server side, including API development and integration
  • Solid foundation in Computer Science or Engineering, with a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, and 4–6 years of professional experience
  • Proven ability to build and deliver complex web systems, including frontend development with modern frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular, and backend work with Node.js and APIs
  • Experience with self-sufficient testing and debugging, including the ability to work without a dedicated QA team and troubleshoot issues independently
  • Skilled communicator and collaborator, able to work closely with users, product teams, and engineering peers to clarify requirements, estimate tasks, and deliver on deadlines
  • Team-oriented mindset with a bias for action, comfortable in fast-paced environments and open to giving and receiving constructive feedback


Additional preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with Python and FastAPI
  • Familiarity with legal tech or legal SaaS products

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.

For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $88,200 - $163,800.

This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
