Network Engineer - Journeyman

Description

Tyto Athene is searching for a Network Engineer - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.

 

The Journeyman Network Engineer manages and maintains network infrastructure, performing advanced troubleshooting and resolving complex network issues to maintain service availability. This position involves working collaboratively with system administrators, cybersecurity staff, and mission stakeholders to ensure secure, resilient, and high-performing network services.

 

Responsibilities:

• Provide Tier 2 troubleshooting of network outages, analyzing issues related to connectivity, routing, switching, and performance degradation
• Support the configuration, management, and optimization of networking equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, maximizing performance and security
• Monitor network traffic and performance, responding to network anomalies by implementing fixes or escalating to senior engineers when necessary
• Assist with network upgrades, expansion projects, and hardware deployments, collaborating with other IT teams to minimize service disruption
• Collaborate with senior network engineers to design and implement network configurations and improvements based on organizational needs
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior network engineers, assisting with troubleshooting and network management tasks while supporting skill development
• Create and maintains detailed documentation of network configurations, troubleshooting processes, and system updates to facilitate effective knowledge transfer and future network scalability
• Analyze network traffic data to identify potential performance or security issues, proposing solutions to enhance network efficiency and reduce risks
• Coordinate with security teams to assist in implementing secure network access controls, firewalls, and monitoring tools

Qualifications

Required:

• Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Networking or related field
• 4-9 years of experience
• Hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies
• Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, VLANs, NAT, and subnetting
• Familiarity with DoD networking environments (e.g., DISN, SIPRNet, NIPRNet)

Desired:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark, PRTG)
• Experience with firewalls, load balancers, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS)
• Understanding of network segmentation and Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA)
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
• Cisco Certified Network Professional
• Aruba Certified Switching Associate

Clearance:

• TS/SCI clearance required

Certification:

• DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
• CompTIA Security+ CE
• Cisco Certified Network Associate
• CompTIA Network+
