Virtualization Engineer - Journeyman

Description

Tyto Athene is searching for a Virtualization Engineer - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida.

 

The Journeyman Virtualization Engineer Deploys, configures, and maintains enterprise virtualization infrastructure to support USSOUTHCOM’s mission-critical IT operations supports the design, build, and maintenance of virtualized infrastructure in support of DoD operations. This role is responsible for assisting with image builds, deployment automation, performance optimization, and compliance with cybersecurity standards across enterprise systems.

 

Responsibilities:

• Assists in designing and optimizing virtualization architectures, integrating hypervisors, containers, and cloud-based solutions for scalability and efficiency.
• Supports the implementation of virtualization platforms, including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Kubernetes, ensuring seamless workload mobility and resource allocation.
• Monitors system performance, conducts diagnostics, and troubleshoots virtualization issues to enhance reliability and minimize downtime.
• Apply DISA STIGs to images and ensure IA compliance prior to enterprise release
• Collaborate with system administrators, security teams, and networking staff for integration
• Perform daily operational tasks, including monitoring, patching, and performance tuning
• Document build procedures, change logs, and validation test cases
• Support backup and disaster recovery operations for virtual environments
• Assists in automation scripting, infrastructure monitoring, and virtualization policy enforcement to streamline operations and improve system visibility.
• Supports mission-critical applications by delivering secure, scalable, and high-performance virtualization solutions across operational environments.

Qualifications

Required:

• Associates degree in IT or related field
• 4-9 years of virtualization or systems engineering experience
• Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi and VM image creation
• Understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems and related build tools
• Familiarity with STIGs, DISA compliance, and RMF standards

Desired:

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization
• Experience with automation tools
• Basic knowledge of hybrid environments
• VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization

Clearance:

• TS/SCI clearance required

Certification:

• DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
• CompTIA Security+ CE
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104)
