Position Description:

The SFQC Lead Trainer/Coach plays a key role in the development and delivery of research- and evidence-based professional development services to San Francisco’s quality improvement system, with the goal of improving the quality of child care experienced by children birth through age 5. Core Focus Areas: Developmental science, child development, infant/toddler development, early childhood education, attachment theory, training, coaching, reflective functioning

What We’re Looking For:

A team member who is committed to the relentless pursuit of higher quality in early childhood education. We seek someone who brings deep content expertise in developmental science (including attachment theory and infant/toddler development); demonstrated skill and effectiveness as a trainer and coach; creativity and initiative; strong project management skills; a demonstrated record of working collaboratively and respectfully with diverse groups; and openness and curiosity about self and others.

Responsibilities:   

  • Manage the delivery of high-quality, research- and evidence-based training and coaching services, including documentation and assessment of impact and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to the development of training/coaching content, models, and strategies as well as policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Provide training, technical assistance, and coaching related to 0 – 5 child development, attachment theory, and evidence-based early childhood practice.
  • Support center-based and family child care programs in developing and implementing quality improvement plans and reaching quality improvement goals.
  • Contribute to systems-building efforts within the San Francisco early childhood education community.
  • Represent WestEd, SFQC, and the San Francisco Department of Early Childhood (DEC) at stakeholder meetings and professional conferences.
  • Collaborate with DEC and other entities providing training and coaching services within San Francisco.
  • Oversee the management and implementation of identified performance measures through all phases of the project lifecycle, including project timelines and finances, mitigation of risks, dissemination, and quality assurance.
  • Participate in training/professional development activities, including obtaining and maintaining required certifications/authorizations.
  • Contribute to internal strategic planning efforts and professional development activities.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
  • At least five years’ experience in early childhood program implementation including at least three years’ experience working with infants and toddlers.
  • At least three years’ supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated deep subject matter expertise in child development (birth to age 5), attachment theory, early childhood education, and adult learning theory.
  • In-depth knowledge of early childhood systems development and implementation.
  • Certification in the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) Modules I – IV; certification in PITC Module V (Beginning Together) preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the California Early Childhood Learning & Development System (i.e., foundations, curriculum frameworks, program guidelines, observational child assessment).
  • In-depth knowledge of tools used to assess child care program quality.
  • In-depth knowledge of evidence-based early childhood coaching models.
  • Knowledge of the California Center for Social Emotional Foundations in Early Learning (CA CSEFEL) approach, including documented completion of the California Early Childhood Online (caearlychildhoodonline.org) module for the Center for Social Emotional Foundations Early Learning Teaching Pyramid Framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with children, families, staff, and partners/stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated experience applying adult learning theory in training, technical assistance, and coaching contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience working with various early childhood program types (e.g., infant/toddler, preschool, center-based, family child care, Early Head Start/Head Start).
  • Experience with a variety of evidence-based early childhood curricula.
  • Demonstrated self-awareness and reflective functioning.
  • Demonstrated alignment with the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Ability to work well independently, in partnership with leaders, and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to manage and balance multiple tasks and priorities; demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to consider numerous complex and nuanced factors in making decisions.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Proficiency with technology (e.g., computers, audio/visual equipment), software, and databases.
  • Local travel and evening/weekend work are required and 3 conferences per year.
  • Spanish/English or Cantonese/English bilingual advanced professional proficiency (speaking, reading, writing, listening) or higher preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The full salary range for this position, WestEd level 11, is $104,600 to $163,500 but WestEd does not typically hire at or near the top of the salary range. The typical hiring range for this role is $104,600 to $130,800. The actual offer takes into account multiple factors including but not limited to education; experience; internal equity, and other organizational needs.

In addition to the base salary, benefits include:

· 15% contribution toward retirement effective day 1 of employment

· Pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts

· All health/welfare benefits are effective the first of the month following the hire date

· PTO: 3 weeks’ vacation (increases to 4 weeks beginning the 4th year of employment), paid holidays, and 12 days paid sick leave per year
