Director of Stewardship and Advancement Services

Join Animal Humane Society as the Director of Stewardship and Advancement Services, where you will be responsible for overseeing donor stewardship, advancement operations, and prospect research—while also serving as the campaign manager for the organization’s capital campaign. Salary: $100,000-130,000 depending upon experience

Schedule/Location:

  • Full-time
  • Location: This is a hybrid position based out of our Golden Valley, MN location, with a minimum of 2 days on-site per week and outside travel to occasional events or meetings. Subject to change as business needs dictate. Must live in or have easy access to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Essential Functions:

Capital Campaign Management:

  • Serve as the internal campaign manager for the organization’s capital campaign, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and milestones are met in collaboration with the Chief Advancement Officer.
  • Act as the primary liaison to the capital campaign consultant, coordinating meetings, follow-ups, and implementation of recommendations.
  • Support campaign volunteer committees, by preparing materials, managing logistics, and ensure maintaining thorough documentation of campaign activities.
  • Oversee campaign gift and pledge tracking through Advancement Services, producing timely reports and projections for leadership and board updates.
  • Collaborate with communications and development teams to align campaign messaging, stewardship, and recognition strategies.

Stewardship & Donor Relations:

  • Design and implement comprehensive donor stewardship strategies to deepen relationships and encourage sustained and increased giving.
  • Develop and manage donor recognition programs, impact reporting, and personalized stewardship plans for major and campaign donors.
  • Ensure timely and meaningful acknowledgement and follow-up for both campaign and annual donors.

Advancement Services:

  • Oversee gift entry, pledge tracking, processing, and acknowledgment to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with IRS and organizational standards.
  • Manage the donor database (e.g., Raiser’s Edge or similar CRM), ensuring data integrity, security, and user support.
  • Develop and refine systems and workflows for campaign and annual giving record-keeping, donor segmentation, and reporting.

Prospect Research & Portfolio Management:

  • Lead prospect research to identify and qualify major gift and campaign prospects.
  • Provide detailed donor profiles and intelligence to support frontline fundraisers.
  • Collaborate with the development team to manage solicitation portfolios and engagement strategies.

Strategic Planning and Budgeting:

  • Partner with the Chief Advancement Officer on departmental planning, budgeting, and goal setting.
  • Monitor departmental budgets, track expenditures, and identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures to support operational efficiency.
  • Prepare and submit revenue and expense reports as required by Finance.

Leadership:

  • Provide supervision, coaching, and development to direct reports as noted on the organizational chart, acknowledging accomplishments and providing regular feedback.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with direct reports to ensure team members have the resources and support to be successful.
  • Address and resolve any issues or conflicts within the team.
  • Review and approve timecards and requested time off within payroll deadlines, working closely with employees to resolve discrepancies.

Communication and Culture:

  • Communicate in a positive and professional manner with customers, other employees, and volunteers.
  • Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion to make AHS a welcoming environment for all.

Technology:

  • Monitor AHS email and other messaging software.
  • Utilize Raiser’s Edge to manage fundraising.

Additional Information:

Schedule and Attendance:

  • Regular, predictable attendance, punctuality, and availability to work during operational hours.
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings, leadership meetings, all-staff meetings, and one-on-one meetings with direct leader.
  • May be required to attend occasional off-site meetings and events.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office/desk based.
  • Adjacent animal shelter areas may be humid, noisy, or odorous.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, or a related field. CFRE certification or an advanced degree a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in advancement or related fundraising roles.
  • Experience coordinating with external consultants and managing complex project timelines.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising CRMs (e.g., Raiser’s Edge), reporting tools, and campaign planning.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills, with attention to detail and strategic thinking.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with computers, specifically a working knowledge of Microsoft products.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged sitting at a desk.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.

Emotional Demands:

  • Must be comfortable with the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of humane euthanasia.

Transportation:

  • Reliable transportation required.
