Communications Specialist

Forward Financing is a financial technology company based in Boston, Massachusetts with team members throughout the United States, Dominican Republic, and Canada. The company is on a mission to unlock the capital that fuels small businesses across America. Recognized as a Best Place to Work by Built In Boston and certified as a Great Place To Work®, Forward is investing in its employees, technology, and customer experience – with long-term success in mind every step of the way.

We're looking for a versatile and highly capable Communications Specialist to join our dynamic team. You'll play a crucial role in shaping how our story is told, both inside and outside our organization.

If you're a naturally curious individual with a passion for marketing and storytelling, eager to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment, this is the perfect opportunity for you. This role is an ideal fit for someone with a few years of experience ready to take on more responsibility and make a significant impact.

While this is a remote-first, US-based role, this team member will be required to join their team in the Boston office approximately twice per month for meaningful face-to-face interactions.

In this role you will:

  • Craft compelling content for a variety of internal and external communication channels, ensuring messages resonate with specific audiences and achieve desired objectives. You'll report to the Manager of Internal Communications for internal-focused content and collaborate closely with the Senior Manager of Marketing on external communications.

  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and our design team to bring our brand voice and visuals to life across all communication touchpoints, both internally and externally.

  • Support internal communications, including:

    • Drafting and distributing company-wide emails, Slack announcements, and content for internal platforms like company-wide meetings and our information Hub.

    • Organizing information, measuring results, and ensuring timely content delivery consistent with our internal voice.

    • Showcasing company wins and successes through engaging internal communications, collaborating cross-functionally to highlight key achievements of stakeholders and departments.

    • Supporting internal, employee events to support information sharing.

  • Support external communications, including:

    • Taking the lead on our social media content calendar, including crafting all content, and collaborating closely with our in-house designer to create impactful visuals, ensuring timely delivery and measuring performance.

    • Monitoring and maintaining all Forward digital channels, including company websites and online profiles, to confirm everything is operating as expected and updated when needed.

    • Supporting Forward’s award strategy by supporting award application development and execution.

  • Assisting with various marketing and communication projects and logistical needs as they arise, demonstrating flexibility and a hands-on, proactive approach

Role Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills are a must, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging copy for diverse audiences and channels. Please be prepared to share writing samples/clips.

  • Experience with Google Slides, Keynote, Prezi, or similar.

  • Proven experience in content development for platforms such as email, social media, and web.

  • Experience working in either an agency or in-house marketing environment is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with both B2B and B2C communication strategies is a plus.

  • A Bachelor's degree preferred in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.

  • A genuine passion for marketing and storytelling, with an understanding of how to tailor messages to influence audience behavior.

  • A strong attention to detail, with proven ability in copyediting and proofreading to deliver error-free deliverables.

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and a proactive, can-do attitude.

Bonus Points:

  • Spanish-speaking proficiency

  • Experience working directly with graphic designers on creative projects

Forward Financing Core Values:

  • Drive the Mission - We believe in financial opportunity for underserved small businesses. We say “yes” when others say “no.”

  • Keep It Real - We value direct communication, candid feedback, and authenticity. We are an open book.

  • Act with Kindness - We create an environment where caring is cool and helping is the norm. We do the right thing.

  • Shoot for Extraordinary - We are inspired by innovative thinking and continuous improvement. We never settle for yesterday’s best.

About Us:

Forward Financing is a financial technology company based in Boston, Massachusetts with team members throughout the United States, Dominican Republic, and Canada. Perks & Benefits:

At Forward, our team members are at the heart of our company, and we are committed to taking care of them as people, not just employees. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, and commuter benefits, a flexible time-off policy, paid parental leave, 401k match for US employees, wellness reimbursement, volunteering days, annual professional development budget, and charitable donation match.

Workplace flexibility is a top priority at Forward too. Our Employee Choice policy means that almost all of our employees get to decide where they work. As a business, we are focused on impact; we are more concerned with your contributions to the success of the company than where you get your work done. If face-to-face time is desired, people managers are empowered to find a cadence that works for their team.

When we aren’t collaborating to drive business and support our customers, we’re finding virtual and in-person ways to get to know our colleagues, celebrate team wins, and have fun together!
