Assistant Directors of the Enactors

Georgetown University comprises two unique campuses in the nation’s capital. With the Hilltop Campus located in the heart of the historic Georgetown neighborhood, and the Capitol Campus, just minutes from the U.S. Capitol and U.S. Supreme Court, Georgetown University offers rigorous academic programs, a global perspective, and unparalleled opportunities to engage with Washington, D.C. Our community is a close-knit group of remarkable individuals driven by intellectual inquiry, a commitment to social justice, and a shared dedication to making a difference in the world.

Requirements

The Assistant Directors of the (RJI) Enactors assist the Director in developing and delivering educational programming to campus constituencies. The (RJI) EnActors are composed of performing arts professionals and educational developers and supported by the Racial Justice Institute, Georgetown College Dean’s Office, the Red House, and the CURA Initiative. The ensemble creates arts-based educational and social interventions. This work spans university settings from audiences of instructors and administrators to students and community hubs, sparking conversation and spreading knowledge. The ensemble works as “first responders” to critical conversations, developing 20-minute works that dramatize and dissect social, legal, and health disparities crafting scenarios to address the harmful racial inequities in these contexts. Pairing short, applied theater performances in a range of genres with facilitated discussions, our programs work to highlight the experience of marginalized individuals, shed light on current and historical racial inequities, and enhance participants’ abilities to advance equity.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Consult with campus constituencies about educational needs.

  • Develop scripts, curriculum, and other educational materials to facilitate structured post-performance conversations.

  • Organize and facilitate campus conversations and follow-up activities.

  • Rehearse student and professional performers.

  • Assess program structure's impact in collaboration with Georgetown faculty and staff.

  • Collaboratively with the Director of the (RJI) EnActors, the Assistant/Associate Director of the (RJI) EnActors will ensure the educational programming is consistently aligned with Georgetown University’s mission and produces meaningful and impactful works that adapt to the needs of the Georgetown community. The successful candidate will have experience in theater, community building, curriculum development, facilitation, research, and performance production processes.

Work Interactions

The Assistant Directors of the (RJI) EnActors will work with the Director of the (RJI) EnActors. They will also work closely with students and faculty on all Georgetown campuses to build curriculum relevant to social justice concerns based upon performance scenarios. The Assistant Directors of the Racial Justice Enactors will coordinate with the Georgetown College DEI Office, the Georgetown College Dean’s Office, the Red House, and the CURA Initiative to create a “season” of performances and community arts events that will address harmful social inequities and inspire action. The Assistant Directors of the (RJI) EnActors will also assist the Director in coordinating with the Dean’s office at Georgetown College to ensure that the ensemble is adapting successfully to the campus climate and the needs of the Georgetown community.
