Accounting Manager

Description

Granite Point is seeking an Accounting Manager to provide leadership, oversight and execution of its commercial real estate accounting and financial reporting functions. A successful candidate must possess strong leadership attributes with the ability to influence senior leadership and collaborate across multiple functional areas. 

The ideal candidate should have experience in the commercial real estate industry, including mortgage lending, mortgage servicing and real estate owned operations. The candidate must demonstrate intellectual capacity to collaborate on complex matters and problem-solve, be detail-oriented with the ability to manage priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment. In addition, the candidate must promote a positive work culture, mentor team members in the accounting function, and develop internal and external relationships.

Responsibilities Include:

• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reporting, including periodic SEC filings and supplementary reporting for audit committee, counterparties, management, etc.
• Support maintenance of accounting policies and procedures and support technical accounting research necessary to maintain GAAP and SEC compliance, including application of new accounting standards
• Manage all commercial real estate accounting processes, including accounting for all investment portfolio transactions and activities
• Partner with accounting team on process enhancements, cross-training, and meeting deadlines 
• Assist CFO and Controller in managing monthly financial close process, including general ledger maintenance and reporting, consolidations and trend/variance analysis
• Facilitate communication with external auditors
• Assist investor relations with external communications
• Team with outsourced IT functions to expand back-office technology and further automate critical accounting systems and reporting
• Partner with FP&A, Treasury and Tax to update forecasting models using automated reports and data from systems
• Research and draft technical GAAP memorandums for new transactions
• Partner with coworkers to develop internal controls
• Engage with industry peers, Accounting system software vendors, and relevant industry groups

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in Accounting and CPA preferred
• Public accounting experience preferred
• 5-7+ years in the financial services industry, preferably with a focus on the commercial real estate industry and in a public company environment
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
• Strong process management skills with experience in designing and managing projects and developing and enhancing systems, operational structure and procedures
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate and manage at all levels of the organization
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to lead and motivate peers to achieve results
• Track record of demonstrating good decision making and strategic discipline
• Must be able to work in the office for a minimum of three full working days out of a five day work week and have the willingness and ability to work longer hours during critical deadlines as needed.
