Description
The Controller plays a pivotal role in driving the financial health and strategic direction of the Company. This individual is responsible for managing all aspects of the Company’s finances, including financial strategy, tax compliance, Board reporting, and forecasting. Reporting directly to the President, the Controller holds a key leadership position and is responsible for developing comprehensive financial strategies, objectives, policies, and practices that ensure long-term fiscal stability. This role also oversees the accounting department, including payroll, retirement plan administration, and check approvals, and actively participates in leadership and management meetings. Through financial expertise and sound judgment, the Controller contributes directly to the continued success and growth of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Oversight and Strategy
· Monitor and assess the financial health of the organization, including transactions, investments, and agreements affecting financial performance.
· Lead the implementation and advancement of Open Book Management (Great Game of Business) principles.
· Educate teams on revenue and cost drivers and develop relevant reporting tools for ongoing monitoring.
Leadership and Operations
· Provide strategic direction to the finance team, including goal-setting, motivation, and performance management.
· Foster collaborative relationships with internal departments to resolve finance-related issues and promote a positive team environment.
· Oversee day-to-day operations of the accounting function, including team hiring and supervision.
· Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and systems in alignment with GAAP.
· Assess and manage technical, professional, and system needs to ensure balanced workloads and adequate support.
· Coordinate, conduct, and review biweekly and monthly payroll runs for accuracy and timeliness.
Financial Reporting and Compliance
· Oversee the preparation and review of timely and accurate financial reports.
· Collaborate with the Company’s CPA firm on tax schedules, returns, and related matters.
· Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including payroll, property, and other applicable taxes.
· Manage all financial regulatory reporting requirements at the local, state, and federal levels.
· Maintain accurate and timely cash flow reporting and analysis.
Additional Responsibilities
· Maintain the highest level of integrity and confidentiality, including compliance with HIPAA and patient privacy standards.
· Perform other tasks and projects as assigned, consistent with the scope and responsibilities of the role.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business required.
· CMA preferred.
· Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial management and accounting, including supervisory responsibilities.
· Experience in activity-based costing within service-based industries.
· Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
· Intermediate skills in implementing and managing software systems.
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation abilities.
· Customer service-oriented, self-motivated, and team-focused.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and independently.
· Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license and maintain current automobile insurance (subject to periodic verification).
