Curriculum Writer - Global History NYS Regents Exam
Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced educator and curriculum developer to create comprehensive tutoring materials for students preparing for the New York State Global History Regents examination. The ideal candidate will develop engaging, standards-aligned content that helps students master both historical knowledge and essential test-taking skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and write a complete tutoring curriculum covering all topics tested on the Global History NYS Regents exam, including ancient civilizations, world religions, political revolutions, imperialism, world wars, and contemporary global issues
- Create lesson plans, study guides, practice exercises, and assessment materials aligned with NYS Social Studies Learning Standards
- Develop multiple question formats including multiple choice, constructed response, and document-based questions (DBQs) that mirror actual exam structure
- Write clear explanations of historical concepts, cause-and-effect relationships, and thematic connections across time periods and regions
- Create timeline activities, map exercises, and visual learning aids to support diverse learning styles
- Develop test-taking strategies and time management techniques specific to the Regents format
- Ensure all materials are accessible and culturally responsive to diverse student populations
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in History, Social Studies Education, or related field; Master's degree preferred
- New York State teaching certification in Social Studies (grades 7-12)
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience teaching Global History or preparing students for NYS Regents exams
- Demonstrated knowledge of NYS Social Studies Learning Standards and Regents examination format
- Strong writing and communication skills with ability to explain complex historical concepts clearly
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing educational curricula or instructional materials
- Familiarity with differentiated instruction and accommodations for diverse learners
- Knowledge of current educational technology and digital learning platforms
- Track record of successful student outcomes on Global History Regents exam
$38 - $45 per hour, depending on experience
