Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Cost Innovation Group within the Business Planning and Innovation Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Senior Engineer.
The primary responsibility is to collaborate with Design, Program Management, Purchasing, A&F and other stakeholders to achieve cost planning targets and milestones. This role requires an engineer with good negotiation, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be detail-oriented and highly organized to manage many parts across multiple projects.
Reporting to the Sr. Manager, the person in this role will lead the Cost Innovation group's objective to increase profitability by meeting cost planning targets throughout development and model life management. In this role, you must be able to understand Toyota’s Cost Planning methodology and develop relationships across multiple Toyota divisions.
What you’ll be doing
The primary responsibility of this role is to manage Design Department and Part Cost Planning activities to support the Cost Innovation Group’s objective of achieving vehicle profitability.
Lead part cost planning and strategy development, managing and reporting design costs to the Chief Engineer and members of Senior Management.
Expert in design part cost structure and cost drivers of parts across multiple design departments, with experience in industry best practices for part cost estimation.
Generate and propose cost reduction ideas (VE/VA), conduct feasibility analysis to meet cost targets and support implementation with related groups.
Coach Design team members in part cost estimation and reduction strategies.
Develop and maintain training and estimation material for stakeholders.
Propose and implement process improvement/kaizens, including status reports to Senior management.
Lead smaller scale cost planning projects and special assignments.
What you bring
Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree in Engineering.
8 years of industry experience.
Proven ability to effectively communicate with various departments and job levels, including TMC.
Strong time management and task prioritization skills.
Ability to work independently to plan, execute, and monitor project schedules to meet Cost Planning milestones.
Experience developing operational procedures and/or maintaining current procedures.
Clear and concise presentation skills, both written and oral.
Added bonus if you have
Design and cost experience preferred
Experience with Toyota systems (SMS, SMS-BR, WARP, PIT, CENT$, PAS)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI
Advanced Excel experience
TBP Panel completion
3 or more years of Toyota experience
