Join our growing team at Vetcove, and help us transform how veterinarians buy the supplies they need to keep America's pets healthy. Vetcove's eCommerce and mobile platforms enable veterinary practices to compare and buy from all of their vendors in one place. Our community of more than 17,000 veterinary hospitals employs tens of thousands of veterinarians, and delivers care to many millions of animals every year across all 50 states. We’re a growing team on a mission to modernize the $50B+ animal health industry. Simply put, Vetcove helps veterinary organizations spend more time giving care, and less time shopping and comparing across vendors to supply their practices. Vetcove is a Y Combinator and venture-backed growth stage company with notable investors in Silicon Valley and NYC. We're looking for exceptionally talented and passionate people to join our growing team.
Vetcove is seeking a Staff Platform Engineer to lead critical initiatives that improve the reliability, performance, and velocity of our engineering systems. You'll own foundational components of our platform—particularly our database architecture, build pipelines, and application dependency management. You’ll work closely with engineering leadership to design scalable solutions that make our systems more resilient and our developers more productive.
This role sits at the heart of our technical infrastructure and engineering workflows. The robustness of our internal platforms directly influences the experience we deliver to our users. The systems you’ll own, from our continuous deployment pipelines to our database topologies, will impact every engineer on the team, and by extension, every veterinarian and pet parent who relies on Vetcove every day.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives on owning core technical systems, enjoys writing Python to solve platform-wide challenges, and is motivated by the compounding impact of helping engineers move faster and more safely at scale.
Lead major database infrastructure efforts, including:
Version upgrades (e.g. PostgreSQL), including code rewrites to address breaking changes
Designing and maintaining replication and sharding strategies
Provisioning and managing developer-facing databases with performance and isolation in mind
Modernize our application stack:
Proactively identify outdated dependencies across services
Own and execute upgrades of key frameworks, libraries, and SDKs
Partner with product teams to coordinate and implement required code changes
Design and evolve CI/CD and QA pipelines:
Own the architecture and implementation of our continuous delivery systems
Drive improvements in test reliability, deployment safety, and system observability
Ensure that environments and tooling scale with team growth and product complexity
Contribute directly to production code:
You'll write and review Python code, especially in service of system upgrades or migrations
Collaborate with product engineers to streamline integration of platform-level improvements
Mentor engineers and influence technical standards:
Help set best practices for deployment, testing, and dependency management
Serve as a go-to resource for high-impact refactors and cross-cutting initiatives
6+ years of experience in backend, platform, or infrastructure engineering roles
Strong proficiency in Python and experience contributing to production applications
Deep familiarity with PostgreSQL and managed database systems
Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and developer environments
Pragmatic about tooling, automation, and systems trade-offs
Bonus: Experience with Django, Redis, Postgres and/or sharding/replication patterns
Clear communicator and technical leader, able to drive cross-functional initiatives
100% remote within the USA
Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
