Technical Writer II

Description

 The Technical Writer II is a mid-level position responsible for developing, editing, and maintaining technical documentation that clearly and accurately communicates complex information to a variety of audiences. This role involves close collaboration with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and illustrators to ensure the clarity, accuracy, and usability of technical manuals, procedures, reports, and training materials. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Research, write, and edit technical documents including user manuals, operation and maintenance instructions, installation procedures, system descriptions, and technical reports. 
• Interview engineers, developers, and other SMEs to gather source information and clarify technical content. 
• Ensure documentation is written in accordance with applicable standards, customer requirements, and company style guides. 
• Collaborate with illustrators to incorporate graphics, diagrams, and tables into technical content. 
• Edit and revise existing documents to reflect engineering changes or user feedback. 
• Participate in document reviews, configuration management processes, and quality assurance activities. 
• Maintain document version control and ensure timely delivery of documentation deliverables. 
• Organize and manage content within documentation repositories, content management systems (CMS), or document control systems. 

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Journalism, Engineering, or a related field. 
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical writing or documentation development. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and document publishing tools such as Adobe Acrobat, FrameMaker, or MadCap Flare. 
• Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with attention to detail and technical accuracy. 
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation. 
• Experience working in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience in defense, aerospace, software, or manufacturing industries. 
• Familiarity with standards such as MIL-STD-40051, S1000D, or other technical data specifications. 
• Experience using content management systems (CMS), XML authoring tools, or structured authoring environments. 
• Basic understanding of engineering drawings, system schematics, or software development lifecycle.
