Psychotherapist Job Summary - Overview
Provides behavioral health services to patients. Completes psychosocial assessment and direct treatment by individual, family, and/or group psychotherapy.
Essential Functions
Develops, implements and evaluates patient care according to identified needs.
Manages clients in crisis utilizing appropriate therapeutic skills and assessment techniques.
Writes appropriate treatment plans according to patient diagnosis, age and clinical presentation. Writes appropriate discharge plans based on individual needs of client and follows through with termination process.
Collaborates with appropriate guardians and community agencies to insure effective service delivery.
Completes patient care assignments with attention to detail and accuracy.
Provides accurate and consistent documentation of patient care/response in the medical record. Completes accurate and timely billing information.
Designs, plans, implements effective patient education.
Maintains open lines of communication, collaborates with healthcare team for patient outcome.
Rehabilitation Psychotherapist – Job Expectations
The rehabilitation psychotherapist willprovide services to a primarily inpatient population of children and adolescents who are admitted for interdisciplinary treatment on the inpatient physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) service at Levine Children's Hospital.
Specific duties include:
Provide inpatient assessment and consultation on the rehabilitation unit
Formulate diagnostic impressions and treatment plans
Provide ongoing psychotherapy services to patients throughout their admission
Work collaboratively with other disciplines, including nursing, medical providers, child life specialists, social work, rehab therapies,trauma network, and other care teams
Provide follow-up services after discharge as indicated, which may include short-term treatment provided via virtual visits
Facilitate ongoing psychotherapy follow-up in the community for patients and families after discharge
Attend care team meeting weekly (2 hours) and 30-minute huddle 3x/week
The successful candidate will be:
Comfortable with evidence-based intervention, including (but not limited to) cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and evidence-based interventions for pain management
Comfortable with patients and families who have experienced serious medical trauma
Comfortable working with the traumatic brain injury population (TBI), including implementing behavior management plans for TBI patients on the unit
Comfortable working with diverse populations
Comfortable working with parents ofyoung children in addition to child and adolescent patients
Physical Requirements
Works in patient care areas including hospital units, emergency room, individual offices and conference areas with exposure to potentially combative and hostile patients. Work requires frequent moving from one area to another, answering pages, and coordinating and communicating with other staff persons in various disciplines and agencies.
Education, Experience and Certifications
Master's degree in a relevant human services field such as Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or Marriage and Family Therapy from an accredited school of graduate education required. Full licensure in NC required. 2 years clinical experience required. CPI and CPR training required for psychotherapist working in inpatient psychiatric setting.
