Job Title: VP Finance

Reports To: President and COO

Location Requirement: Must reside within 45 minutes of the corporate office 

Company Scope: Multi-state service organization with 6+ locations, 250+ service vehicles, 65,000+ customers, 95% residential, growing annually at 15% + YOY.

Position Overview

We are seeking a humble, customer-service driven VP Finance who recognizes that true leadership is about building others and is hungry for learning. The VP Finance will oversee all financial operations, leading financial planning, and foster a forward-thinking environment. This role requires a trusted leader with a proven track record leading finance teams and experience building out FP&A functions. A lifelong learner who has a goal of becoming a CFO by attending education (e.g., HBS, Stanford, Wharton) will thrive in this environment, driving continuous improvement and adaptability across the company.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Strategy & Leadership

o  VP Finance will report to President and COO

o Develop and execute a forward-thinking financial strategy aligned with organizational growth objectives (e.g., from $50M to $500M over next 20 years).

o Serve as a trusted advisor to the President & COO, and Sr. Leadership team on financial planning & capital allocation.

o Provide clear, actionable insights on potential investments that support our people-first and company growth strategies.

2. FP&A Ownership & Reinvention

o Take over FP & A starting Day 1 after onboarding

o Oversee and continuously reinvent the FP&A process, maintaining accuracy and agility to scale with the business. 10+ years’ experience in FP & A must.

o Prepare and present monthly reforecast budgets, quarterly budget reviews, annual budgets, 5 year rolling forecasts, and ad hoc financial models to President & COO and during certain times of year CEO & Advisory Board.

o Own and continually develop the long-term financial planning process, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.

3. Team Building & Talent Development

o Inspire, recruit, and coach high-performing finance professionals

o Foster a culture of continuous improvement; build clear paths for career growth and lead by example in professional development.

o Champion a customer service–first attitude, encouraging finance team members to proactively support internal and external stakeholders.

o Ensure weekly team and individual 1-1 meetings are performed to ensure accountability and collaboration.

4. Technology & Systems Optimization

o Leverage technology proficiency to evaluate and enhance current accounting software/systems.

o Drive system upgrades and process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.

o Embrace solution-oriented thinking, exploring new tools and methods to support the evolving needs of a multi-state service operation.

5. Collaboration & Relationship Building

o Collaborate daily/weekly with C-suite leaders, attending senior leadership meetings at least two days per week on-site.

o Serve as a strong relationship builder across all departments, ensuring the finance function is a strategic partner rather than a silo.

o Communicate financial insights clearly and effectively, fostering trust and executive presence at all levels.

6. Risk Management & Compliance

o Ensure confidentiality and security of sensitive financial data—protecting the company’s proprietary information.

o Establish and maintain robust internal controls, adhering to GAAP, relevant regulations, and best practices.

o Oversee yearly company audit with our 3rd party accounting firm and other compliance initiatives, demonstrating compliance knowledge and a dedication to ethical standards.

7. Performance & Growth

o Manage cash flow, capital structure, and resource allocation for sustainable business growth.

o Identify and evaluate strategic opportunities for expansion and in the future acquisitions.

o Maintain a forward-thinking and solution-oriented mindset to adapt to market changes and drive longevity in the organization.

8. Key Vendor Relationships

· Maintain bank relationships and secure yearly capital debt needs for trucks, equipment.

· Maintain accounting firm relationship that helps us oversee yearly audit, software maintenance, SALT compliance, Tax, etc.


Requirements

 

Key Qualifications & Competencies

· Education & Experience

o Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.

o Demonstrated FP&A leadership (10+ years), including ownership of budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial analysis.

· Stability & Progression

· Proven Staying Power: Maintained roles at only one or two companies over the past ten years, demonstrating loyalty, consistent performance, and clear career progression

· Proven Roots in Philadelphia

o Demonstrated a stable career track with continuous progression at companies based in the Philadelphia region for over a decade, underscoring commitment to the local market and long-term professional growth.

· Skills & Attributes

o Strong analytical skills and expertise in financial modeling.

o Technology proficient, open to exploring new systems and software.

o Humble, team-focused approach to leadership—values building others and driving a positive culture.

o Customer-service driven, willing to roll up sleeves for problem-solving.

o Lifelong learner, with aspirations for continuous education (e.g., HBS, Stanford, Wharton).

o Compliance knowledge with the ability to ensure regulatory and internal policy adherence.

o Adaptability, solution-oriented, and forward-thinking.

 

What Success Looks Like in the First Year

1. Ownership of FP&A & Ongoing Reinvention

o Take over FP & A after 30 days of onboarding.

o Take over an existing FP&A process and continuously reinvent it for long-term scalability (think $50M to $500M).

o Leverage 10+ years of proven experience in a larger company to make an immediate impact from day one.

2. Continued Trust & Respect from the VP Finance leadership role

o Accurate, timely, and trusted financials delivered monthly.

o Strict protection of confidential information, maintaining stakeholder confidence.

3. Continued Customer Service–First Attitude

o Finance team is known for its responsive, hands-on support and collaboration.

o Internal “customers” view the finance function as a key partner in achieving organizational goals.

4. Continued Executive Presence

o Senior leadership maintains high confidence in financial data and recommendations.

o The VP Finance and Controller display strong executive presence in weekly leadership meetings, management forums, and offsite planning sessions.

5. Proven Team Leadership

o Coach and develop current finance personnel, guiding the department through system upgrades and process improvements.

o Take over existing project plans that drives continuous improvement across financial operations.

6. 30 day onboarding to fully integrate in the business and build strong relationships.

7. C-Suite Collaboration

o Work on-site (at least two days/week) to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and corporate teams. (live within 45 minutes of HQ)

o Collaborate with accounting and cross-functional teams on ideas for improvement and strategic direction.

8. Clear - 3 year learning plan to develop full knowledge of the industry & continued development in the VP Finance leadership role.

9. High-Impact Presentations & Investment Strategy

o Present to President & COO, Sr. Leadership, and CEO and advisory Board translating complex financials into actionable investment strategies.

10. Weekly meetings with President & COO to be fully integrated in the day to day operation.
