The National Geographic Society headquarters, based in Washington, D.C., is undergoing a significant renovation project on its campus (called Base Camp), which will be completed in 2026. The public-facing portion of this renovation will be the new National Geographic Museum of Exploration. Components of the new museum will include a state-of-the-art pavilion entrance, auditorium, iconic photo gallery, exhibition space, immersive walk-through attraction, retail, food and beverage, education center, archives, tours, and exciting new event space. The capstone of the renovation is a one-of-a-kind nighttime experience in the courtyard.Your Impact
Your Responsibilities
Division-wide Project Management (40%)
Support the tracking of deliverables and deadlines for the Chief Campus & Experiences Officer for division-wide projects and initiatives
Regularly audit and maintain of a centralized project management tool, Monday.com ensuring that team members maintain accurate data and record keeping of their projects, deadlines, and deliverables, proactively surfacing risks and needs; flag areas of concern
Serve as project management support for various division projects and activities as needed
Strategic Support to Division Leadership (30%)
Partner with the Chief of Staff and Chief Campus and Experiences Officer and other senior leaders to advance strategic priorities through coordination, research, and logistical support
Prepare internal presentations, reports, and updates related to divisional operations and cross-departmental partnerships
Assist with planning and execution of key leadership meetings, retreats, and organizational events as needed
Support calendaring and schedule planning and tracking of preparatory materials
Contribute to division culture initiatives, including support of new communications and training channels
Internal Collaboration and Task Tracking (15%)
Serve as the primary C&E liaison to the Advancement Division, to ensure that all relevant division stakeholders appropriately contribute to planning for museum spaces and signage, exhibition sponsorships for the museum and traveling exhibitions, public programming and NG Live events, as well as retail and marketing integration
Track and manage C&E’s deliverables associated Advancement-led initiatives
Support the development of materials that highlight C&E programs, impact, and opportunities for philanthropic support
Division-wide Administrative Support (15%)
Support and coordinate key administrative processes across the division.
Develop and maintain centralized data systems and templates to ensure consistency and efficiency in operations.
Support compliance with organizational policies and procedures in collaboration with Finance, Legal, and HR partners.
Serve as a resource for C&E staff on administrative processes and tools, and train others as needed.
What You’ll Bring
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
5+ years of relevant experience, with some experience working in a non-profit or cultural attraction setting, and a combination of experiences with operations, administration, and/or project management.
Experience working in a highly collaborative cross-functional environment and coordinating across departments in a fast-paced environment that values excellence and teamwork.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work with senior executives and external stakeholders
Proactive, detail-oriented, and resourceful with a commitment to high-quality work
Extremely organized and responsive
Comfortable working in a dynamic, mission-driven environment
Familiarity with nonprofit advancement or donor relations
Experience supporting executive leaders
Experience using Monday.com a plus
Salary Information
The National Geographic Society offers a competitive and holistic total rewards package. Our compensation structure and transparent pay philosophy are based on industry-specific market data for similar-sized nonprofit organizations.
The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

Resident - Our Resident category recognizes that certain staff need to be physically present at Base Camp to do their work. Some Resident staff must be at Base Camp every day to do their jobs, while others may only need to be physically present onsite some of the time to meet looming deadlines or to get work done and may require a unique schedule. As such, this category has been revised to provide maximum flexibility depending on what’s required for each individual role. The days Resident staff come into the office will be determined by their teams and workflow, and they should work with their supervisors to determine their specific schedule. And throughout the year, their schedule may be adjusted based on cyclical work cycles, deadlines, and/or ebbs and flows of work.Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
