The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.
The Division of Policy, Planning and Measurement (PPM) collaborates with every ACS division to guide systems analysis and strategic systems improvement; assure quality of practice at ACS and its provider agencies; professionalize the frontline workforce; bring knowledge into practice; provide research and analytic support; and plan and develop new programs and policies.
The Office of Training and Workforce Development within the Division of Policy, Planning, and Measurement at ACS provides foundational and continuous learning opportunities for child welfare and juvenile justice direct service staff and supervisors. The Family First Prevention Service Act requires all prevention direct service staff and supervisors to complete and integrate Motivational Interviewing in their practice.
Under the direction of the ED of ACS Workforce Institute, the Director of Prevention MI Coaching will provide coaching and training to the supervisors and direct service staff in the Preventive Provider agencies. The Director will be devoted primarily to supporting the transfer of learning efforts and ongoing skill development for Motivational Interviewing to the identified Prevention Service staff.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Supervise a team of coaches tasked to support staff in the Preventive Provider agencies with applying Motivational Interviewing in their practice in adherence to the Family First Preventive Service ACT.
- Provide oversight of the program’s operations to ensure prescribed deliverables are executed.
- Develop strategies to support ongoing improvement of the program.
- Partner with ACS leadership and internal and external stakeholders to maintain intended alignment of the program.
- Attend meetings with ACS leadership and stakeholders to discuss program status, updates and strategies to strengthen the program.
- Establish a working knowledge in the continuum of Preventive Services with specific focus on related Evidence Based Models.
- Work closely with a portfolio of Preventive agencies assignments across the 5 Boroughs.
- Establish a system for ensuring that the program activities are effectively implemented and monitored.
- Assist with the design, pilot and implementation of coaching opportunities for supervisors to support transfer of learning efforts.
- Prepare reports summarizing and explaining data to record/convey work activities/findings/recommendations.
- Support efforts to promote and establish buy-in for the vision and planning related to building a learning culture and implementing the coach approach.
- Collaborate with ACS WI coaching team to establish alignment around the coach approach.
- Public speaking, as needed, regarding the initiatives described above.
- Participate in special projects, as necessary and/or other tasks as assigned.
- Participate in ongoing professional development coaching sessions with colleagues to enhance own professional development.

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and four years of full-time, satisfactory professional social services or related experience in organizations dealing directly with children and/or adolescents; such as (but not limited to) child welfare agencies, Day-Care, educational institutions, mental health groups, pediatrics, juvenile justice.
