Summary of Job Duties:

The Director of Development (DOD), Libraries will manage their own portfolio, assist with team achievements and support the Unit’s approved fundraising goals and strategies. Moreover, the DOD will be responsible for creating and delivering proposals and gift agreements, composing and sending acknowledgements, and overseeing accounting and gift compliance requirements consistent with Advancement Division and University policies, procedures, and practices. The DOD should be able to create strong and collegial relationships with the Dean, Department Chairs, Faculty and Staff of the unit and develop a high level of awareness about the Libraries, including, but not limited to, its academic course offerings, research initiatives and achievements, public service activities, student and alumni demographics. Performance metrics will be determined in consultation with the Dean of the Libraries, the Vice Chancellor of Advancement and the Sr. Advisor for Advancement. Timely completion of Activity Reports with a follow-up “next step” (visits by videoconferencing on Zoom or Teams, or in-person visits are counted upon submission of an Activity Report) are required, along with developing solicitation strategies for their portfolio, planning quarterly travel (every three-months basis) and executing travel plans.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

  • At least four years of development experience in a higher education setting, including demonstrated major gift success, or equivalent experience in another non-higher education setting

  • Experience managing volunteers and advisory boards

  • Experience with professional travel across the U.S.

  • Effective written, oral communication, and organizational skills

  • Experience with a successful major giving campaign (preferably in higher education)

  • Demonstrated success in securing Planned Gifts

  • Experience and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience supporting, and collaborating with, an alumni association or related professional entity

  • Experience managing data, executive correspondence, and communications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with a university campus and Library

  • Familiarity with business analysis in fundraising

  • Graduate of the University of Arkansas – Fayetteville

  • Proven track record of existing network of relationships with current and prospective benefactors to the unit and University

  • Experience with CRM’s that support philanthropy, such as AffinaQuest, EverTrue or similar

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles of fundraising and ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle: (1) to initiate contacts with potential donors; (2) to develop appropriate cultivation strategies, including working with volunteers and senior University administrators; (3) to move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure; (4) to make solicitations when appropriate; (5) to maintain stewardship contacts with donors

  • Commitment to one or two multi-day trips across the U.S. per month sufficient to meet the identified performance metrics for that fiscal year

  • Mission-aligned with the University’s pillars: student success, research excellence and employer of choice initiatives

  • Guided by the highest integrity

  • Goal-driven as evidenced by persistence and successful outcomes

  • Skilled with special event management

  • Ability to professionally represent the Libraries and the University

  • Ability to Strategically plan and manage deadlines

  • Collaborative and collegial leadership style, solid relationship-building skills, and respectful/thoughtful response to input and interface with supervisors, division colleagues, alumni, donors, volunteers, leading faculty, administrators, and trustees

  • Ability and willingness to learn and use work-related databases

  • Ability to receive and provide constructive feedback to advance fundraising initiatives
